Yes they did. All 3 of them.

The party of Abe Lincoln is the same as the party of Trump in name only. Republicans under Trump have lost their way. Sad.

It's funny because the Southern, conservative democrats repeatedly get sh*t on for being the party of slavery, even though they were the party of conservatism as well and states rights. So every time this tired trope is said, I just laugh and smile because it's conservatives attacking other conservatives for being conservatives and wanting to conserve the institution of slavery. While praising the liberals in the Republican party for their progressive anti-slavery message. The Republicans in threads like these are so brainwashed they don't even realized their attacking conservatism just because conservatism could be found more in the Democratic party at the time than the Republican, big government/ big city, anti-states rights policies.

Some context is likely in order here

Who rejoiced when President Lincoln was assassinated?

Yeah, but it says a lot that the Republicans showed compassion, and changed the course of history..NOT Democrats.

According to several right wingers on this forum, slavery was not a major issue of the civil war and Honest Abe was a horrible racist. Remember the outrage about removing confederate statues and flags.

Who cares about History? I want to know how much it is going to cost me and if I can line up to get some of the handouts?
It should only cost the Democrats, since they resisted setting the slaves free for so long. The Republicans get a pass for setting them free. Repartions sounds like a thing between Dems & African Americans to me.

Yes, the proclamation freed slaves in Mississippi where the Union forces had absolutely no impact but slaves in the Union state of Maryland continued to be slaves even after January 1,1863.

History of slavery in Maryland

So on June 1, 1864 you couldn't own a slave in the confederate state of Alabama but you sure could own in the northern Union state of Maryland.

This whole civil war thing about being a war to end slavery is stupid. What we need to get down to is why was the Emancipation Proclamation ever done in the first place? Answer: to keep England from recognizing the Confederacy. The proclamation came after the first Union victory at Antietam...

Do they teach history in schools anymore?
It is an interesting topic (apart from the partisan OP), because Lincoln issued it in order to get England turn their navy back, and he was successful. England had recently abolished slavery, and Lincolns declaration made it look like England was supporting slavery again by fighting for the South. Until that point, the war had not been about freeing slaves, but the declaration made it all about them.

Right wingers don't feel as much guilt as the Liberals do because we did the right thing, and Libs didn't. That is why the Libs still have so much guilt about it and want the Confederate monuments torn down, so that everyone will forget that they resisted setting the slaves free. Dems/Libs are trying to erase their ugly past.

Let's also add that more Republicans than Democrats, as a percent, voted for Civil Rights too. So should we start tearing down all the MLK statues and renaming all the MLK Blvds' so the Dems can erase that too?

No wonder Dr. King was said to be a Republican (by his own family members).

History is on the side of Republicans, and the Dems/Libs have been trying to erase history and call Republicans racists to bamaboozle Americans who don't know their history.

Never fear, I'm here to keep the record intact, and remind people every time a significant historical date arises...like today.

You are deflecting, not adding context. Assination came LATER. Nice try though.
