Yeah, generally the leader of the party with the most seats is then made PM. In cases like this, when the party decides to push the leader and PM out it triggers a leadership contest with all members eligible to vote for the next party leader who will be the PM until the next general election which must come before January 2025.

Interesting though that all the candidates to replace him so far all appear to have backed Johnson, so they are all complicit in the mess he's left.

Johnson didn't resign for any such reason. He resigned because basically there weren't enough Conservative party MP's that backed him anymore. There were 35+ resignations from his cabinet. Nothing to do with the pandemic handling.

The UK is in big trouble. Prices go up on everything that people consume.

Will there be any prosecution of the prime-minister who caused all problems?

Wasn’t Labour with Corbyn the only alternative?

The UK is not alone in ridiculous price hikes. Corporations are out of control. Take a look at huge protests in Sri Lanka, Netherlands etc.

If PMs were prosecuted, you’d think Blair would be locked up by now.

Thank you, I could just imagine the Cage Fight in this country if the President was selected in this way..

Good. When you lock people down, have the police break into their homes and arrest them, beat people down in the streets for insipid mask violations, have that dumb green pass or whatever it was called, and you're having a big ol' party at your house where you dismiss all the rules you put on the people, you deserve to be outed. Frankly, ANY politician who did this, anywhere, deserves the same, AND they deserve a whole lot more punishment.

If only the U.S. would hold their own politicians accountable.

Thanks for clearing that up, I should have stated that the majority party in parliament makes the decision...not just parliament.

I love watching the British parliament, fascinating system. Ours is boring in comparison.

The UK finally got tired of their more eloquent Trump clone, it seems. It should be interesting to see who they choose now.
