Who has better medical care, 24/7, than Biden? How often do you think Biden was testing? Is Paxlovid "automatic" or "within X days of symptoms"?
Do you think, since the docs know about "Paxlovid rebound" they might monitor symptoms for 24-48 hours to see if they are worse or better before using it?
Very few will have 24/7 medical coverage. Biden must get tested at least daily. Paxlovid for Biden must be started within 5 days of his first symptoms or positive test. If he is not sick and not up to that 5th day, a day or so of feet dragging would not be unreasonable.
I should mention though I have done plenty of reading on Paxlovid, my clinical experience does not go farther than myself and a few friends that have taken it.
I found the drug quite nasty!
A terrible taste in my mouth like chewing on grapefruit rind. Also there are many meds that you cannot take at the same time, and for a few days after taking Paxlovid. Including my prostate med, which became intolerable. That - plus having successfully made it to age 71 and a 1/2 years of age without shtting myself (!) I quit after 3 and 1/2 out of 5 days. And did well.
he hasn't practiced medicine since Covid hit. But he does have a Doctor's perspective.
Of course, I'll take this opportunity to ask Hoonose, if he's here still:
Where are those accurate "antibody" tests? We've been talking about this for an entire year, and a year ago you were saying "anytime now" they'd be ready.
Yet here we are.
I am not up to date on those since their clinical use never panned out as very useful. Mainly as I recall since the virus continued to mutate so often.
Back in 2020 my husband had a lab test done in a hospital. Positive. So he quarantined for 14 days. Since he needed a Negative test, 21 days after his initial positive test, he went to a CVS for another lab test. That came back positive. So who did he catch it again from? I tested Negative. He did not have contact with anyone else.
He called up the hospital to schedule another test (lab) and they refused to give him another test until 3 MONTHS later. Remember this was 3 weeks after first test. Hospital said the test was sensitive enough to give a positive result with only trace amount of the virus, which someone could still have months later.
Hospital gave him a note saying that after 14 days he was no long contagious.
Have they changed these lab tests? If not, why are people testing on a daily basis? At Home Rapid Tests are better than Hospital Lab Tests?
On the PCR (or "lab" tests), you can test positive for up to 3 months. That test, in the simplest terms, picks up on DNA fragments of the virus and not the same parts of the virus that the rapid tests look for.
Rapid tests are the best indicator for active, shedding virus. The other test (which were the first we had) go after the viral DNA. You will have the viral DNA in your nose for a long time. Took my son 5 weeks to get a clear from a rapid test.
I had COVID in April and I finally got a negative rapid test on Day 12. My husband took 14 days to get a clear rapid test. His infection was in early July. If he took a PCR test now, it would be positive.
Hmmm … where have I heard the bolded before? Oh yeah - when they said breakthrough cases after vaccination were rare.
We (the public) could see in real time how “not rare” breakthrough cases were - except the powers that be insisted they were.
Same song and dance here. Rinse, lather, repeat.
This stuff is all new to everyone, including docs.
In medicine we have to keep up to date with the most clinically useful treatments. Safety and efficacy are both very important. And as updates are frequently coming at us in real time, these opinions and recommendations might change moving forward.
Rebound is not rare, and is not a serious problem that I have read about so far.
So rare that both Biden & Fauci had rebound Covid.
It reminds me of that plane of Texas Dems who all got breakthrough Covid.
They said that was “rare” too.
Yeah, I don't think it's rare. I participate in a COVID/COVID treatment forum and lots of people get the Paxlovid rebound. Honestly, some people who don't take Paxlovid also have somewhat of a rebound. They start feeling better around Day 5 or 6 and then take another nosedive for a few days. Not sure what that's about.
My uneducated opinion is that the current Paxlovid regimin is not enough to tamp down the viral replicaition and it probably needs another few days added on. But maybe they tried that and it made no difference--I never read their studies.

Clinical trial: 1-2% rebound
Real world: 5% rebound
It’s honestly probably MUCH higher and we will be seeing them admit as much fairly soon
Gotta love pfizer. Come up with a “vaccine” that does not keep you from getting sick or transmitting the virus and then get approval for paxlovid and it’s Covid rebound effect. They sure have the govt lobbyist game figured out.
This made me literally start laughing out loud. Good one!!
