Good news keeps on coming!

Nice to see adult behavior. If you don't like a platform, you leave. Easy peasy, well done NPR.

This thread is about Twitter, not "the fabric of society."

Unless you're arguing that making tweaks to Twitter is "disrupting the fabric of society."

Is that what you're arguing?

Less than 1% of their funding comes from government sources. Listeners foot the bill.

Agreed.

“We are not putting our journalism on platforms that have demonstrated an interest in undermining our credibility and the public’s understanding of our editorial independence,” it said. “We are turning away from Twitter but not from our audiences and communities.”

Good. NPR is exactly right. Hopefully more ethically journalistic news outlets and professionals follow suit. Twitter is a troll farm.

Can't wait for that new "corporate-affiliated media" label that's coming out... right?

I don't think Twitter or this is a big deal, personally. But a major, major use of media historically and now is to alter the "fabric of society", for better or worse.

Looks like through various grants, indirect and direct funding NPR gets ballpark 1/4 of their money from the govt. or extensions thereof. The rest if donations (especially McDonalds founder money) and then normal income stuff licensing, ads etc.

Side Note: "Direct or indirect political pressure" is a point I've brought up here several times with regards to congress pressuring groups like META, Twitter etc. and their own internal biases and before anyone gets up on a high horse, this was also a factor in Tucker\FOX not wanting to anger Trump by refuting his election theft stuff.
No. It is less than 1%.

Elon replied "Defund NPR."

He just went out of his way to alienate the one segment of society that is most enthusiastic about EVs, climate change, and alternative energy. Slick move. I'll bet his investors are going to have Dom Perignon hangovers tomorrow.

Tesla will be fine. If the competition was actually worthwhile (i.e. had adequate fast charger networks, etc.), I'd be concerned. But we continue to see Tesla do extraordinarily well. It's a similar reason why Chick-fil-a even in leftist cities. If you sell a good product, they'll continue to buy it.
