Just to forewarn anyone thinking about downloading Threads, if you have an Instagram account and download this then decide to delete it, the only way you can do that is by closing your Instagram account.
i did. absolutely nothing there to indicate that twitter is 'circling the drain.'
did you just make that up?
Libs keep stating that, I believe even as much in the media repeating the unfounded lie. Its a private company and they don't have to release their finances. I do know that Musk is now pulling $8 per user in the millions where before it was $0.
Competition is good, if it's fair. Will probably go to court if there are NDA's.
The only thing Threads offers over Twitter is longer posts and up to 5 min videos. Which is good but then you have this nonsense which Tim Pool tweeted:
"the goal of Threads is to stop you from being able to have your own follower list..Insta and Threads forces you to see posts from people you don't know"
The trend in social media tech is getting rid of the old model of choosing who to follow, so that they can send you posts what they want you to see.
If you get posts from people you don't know on Threads I certainly wouldn't use it. Does Twitter do that?

In March there were around 440,000 paid twitter accounts and most of them had few followers.
While it is a private company, there are companies that track advertising on socials, and that's been down for twitter. Also, one of the banks who invested, halved the value of it's own investment due to the lack of revenue at twitter. I'm sure there are pros and cons to carrying over that way of valuation across the board.

I wondered about wisdom of the $8.00 charge to use Twitter, because practically all social media is free to the end user, and make money from other sources.

The vast majority of people did not purchase the $8/mo package and I've seen no reports citing that number to be in the millions.
Meanwhile advertising revenue - where the real money was - is down almost 60%: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/05/t...ales-musk.html Twitter would need to pick up over 8 million subscriptions just to break even with reduced ad spend - and they're likely not breaking 400K.
As an advertiser, Twitter no longer delivers ROI.
