He was the mayor and Texas is a Republican state, what "progressive policies" ????
That's easy. Mayor Johnson sided with the DPD and Chief Garcia over hardcore left DA John Creuzot over and over. Johnson resisted calls to defund the police.
The yield is Dallas has mostly bucked the sharp increases in violent crime and general disorder noted across most big US cities over the last few years.
Creuzot has been, in writing and action, for minimizing cash bail, expunging most criminal records, minimizing shoplifting sentences (and for a while he floated making some shoplifting penalty free - theft of personal items less than $750 won't be prosecuted) and many more.
So he pulled a bait and switch on the Electorate that voted for him. In other words he is a liar.
Seems like a perfect fit for the GOP.
If Dallas mayoral elections are non-partisan ( which I believe they are ), then he didn’t run as a Democrat. Municipal non-partisan elections tend to be based on personality and policy positions, not party.
As much as I'm happy to see someone in his position come to his senses, politically speaking, I don't really like it when politicians switch parties while serving their terms. The people of Dallas wanted a Democrat to be their mayor, and he is retroactively denying them that choice. He should have switched while running for election (or re-election) and let the people decide.
Voted Party not person?
We know Dems vote lockstep no matter what.

Sir, the other poster argued that Dallas had progressive policies. So you disproved your own argument

Within 5 years Texas might go blue however. California took down Arizona and Colorado already. Texas is next on the slate to take down. Shame.
Let's be clear , he was promised something in return for switching parties . Maybe uncontested for Allreds seat.
