I live in a fairly small town in Northern Oklahoma. One can rent a small apt for under $400 a month, a below average older home for under $500. I have a friend who bought a decent sized 1500sf home on an acre for $100k, low down payment and makes $600 a month house payment. She makes $15 an hour. And no one will work for less that $12-$15 an hour. And they have trouble filling those jobs. There are unskilled jobs in the oil industry that pay way more than $20 an hour if you don't mind getting dirty and working hard. So you can get by here fine on what is essentially minimum wage or without skills wages. And its all Americans working in restaurants. You can get a good breakfast for under $10. Things are way out of whack in big cities. The solution for those struggling in cities is move. Not keep pushing up wages. Or acquire a skill that is worth $25 an hour. If you are an adult over 21 working in a Waffle House is your best job option. Something went wrong along the way. Who is to blame for that?

Because the majority of minimum wage-earning mothers are breadwinners, raising the federal minimum wage would strengthen economic security for millions of families.
..
In reality, most low-wage workers in the United States are adults working full time, mostly women and disproportionately women of color.
Its always been that way because low wage jobs allow mothers flexible hours so they can take care of parenting stuff. Many women worked those jobs as a second income to their SO or to supplement their SS.

I worked those low wage server jobs ($1.50/hr. + tip) as a single mother after my husband died while going back to school to get my degree.

I live in a rural area and all you can get for $400/month is a trailer in BFE. Apartments are ~1000+ or - a little. You can get a breakfast sandwich and coffee at a ff drive thru under $10 here. The median household income here is not 50K.

That won't even get you close to being a billionaire though. Shouldn't EVERYONE be able to afford a mcmansion and a couple lambos????

I'd rather see waffle house go out of business than see the employees there get $25 an hour. Maybe waffle house has had its day

Strippers, megachurch pastors, telemarketers, payday loan lenders, slum lords, and used car salesmen agree with you. Respect and a living wage!

The problem is, progressives have yet to define what a living wage is, because they know it's just a man made concept.

Well not defining it makes it "fluid". The ones leading them aren't stupid.

Remember the "Fight for $15" ?

Now it's $25 and you hear nothing about the "Fight for $15" movement anymore.
