Another tactic to ensure that when the leftists in government decide to turn the military on the US citizenry, they will do as they are ordered.

I left the Navy as an MM2. My dad earned his GED while in the Navy in the 60s. Not having a high school nor university diploma doesn’t mean one isn’t intelligent. But I do agree with you about lowering ASVAB scores. The ASVAB was a relatively easy test that covered a wide range of knowledge questions. My score and match grades were enough to get me into the nuclear program (dropped out at second school). So many ship board jobs are easily converted to a civilian career.
I was in 1987 to 2008, retired as a UTC (Seabee rate, Utilitiesman, Chief. Muddy boot Navy). After that I was a foreign service security specialist working for Dept of State, 2008 to 2022. I worked for/with guys with no degrees up to people with PHD's in the Navy. I worked for mostly engineers (I eventually got my own Mech Engineering degree) in the Dept of State, but almost all I worked directly with had a sort of a boiler plate engineering degree of various flavors.

After 35 years in those two environments, I walked away knowing formal education does not form into an educated and capable person by any means.

The Navy dropping practical knowledge requirements testing via the ASVAB is more disturbing than any public school credentials to me. (The Navy's internal system using ASVAB for nuke school candidates is an indication of success for that. They tend to really get the right people for that field). Some of the best and most roundly knowledgeable people I worked with had lowly public school education levels , and some of the best educated types I knew in Dept of State where on the other end of things.

Wow, just another day with Brandon as commander in chief.

The standards continue to decline at an alarming rate.
So what do you want. No one wants to enlist anymore

Indeed. I graduated high school in 2003. Navy already took high school flunkies when I graduated HS. Seems 20 years has passed and the standards are the same. Non dumb dumbs on ASVAB haven't needed a daycare degree for some time.

I want standards.

If no one wants to enlist, then increase the pay. Supply and demand 101.

I graduated high school in 87 but didn’t go to boot camp until 1990 because I had tubes in my ears and had to wait for them to come out. Served until 98 when I was discharged for not being able to pass the fitness test due to shoulder injury. VA doctor once called my shoulder “rice crispies”. Served on the USS Iwo Jima LPH-2 in Desert Storm and then USS LaSalle AGF-3 when it went to Gaeta Italy. It was there that I injured my shoulder. It was at shore duty that I failed the fitness test for the 3rd time and was discharged. Being on the LaSalle gave me the chance to see places I never could before and probably never will again. Some highlights include Gibraltar, Barcelona, Malta, Florence, Pisa, Venice, Monte Carlo, Athens, Rhodes, Varna, Odessa (Ukraine, not Texas), Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Cairo, & Giza among many other places. It’s thanks to what I learned that I’m now on my 25th year at the hospital boiler room earning a steady paycheck.

During the Vietnam and draft era, sure.

They have since banned using military service as an alternative to jail. And anyone with a violent conviction is not eligible.

Better to hire illegals than mercenaries from Africa or the Middle East.
