Waiting to see the list with most of the usual cities where crime isn't treated seriously packing it.
Then we'll get to (again) hear how it's just normal closures and it's happening everywhere.
Family Dollar though, will smartly avoid addressing any particular city or state though....or find themselves the target of investigations, legislation, red tape etc.
Actually, what some posters said is right, these stores tend to be way understaffed. But that is part of the business model, in order to sell at cheaper prices, you have to keep costs down. But cheaper prices attract more customers, which means you need more employees, so it is actually a vicious circle.
Actually the theft they are claiming is just a small part of the decline of the moral ethics that helped make America such a great and prosperous country. In college I heard this called the "Protestant Work Ethic" (and I say this as a Catholic) or the "Achievement Ideology" which was engrained in the culture of the majority of Americans.
But our current crop of leaders seem to take that for granted. They assume "newcomers" will share our values. For instance, on women's rights. Well some do but many don't, especially people who are breaking laws just to illegally come into the USA. Do our leaders really think these people are going to become model citizens???
Perhaps the issue is that almost 17,000 stores can't keep staff. As for organized theft, does anyone really think there are roving bandits shoplifting dollar rolls of tissue paper to sell on the black market??
Yes. They already stated theft was a problem.

Dollar Tree said theft is such a problem it will start locking up items or stop selling them altogether

Dollar Tree had a miserable quarter, and company management is chalking it up to a mix of factors: changing consumer demands on top of higher prices for fuel and electricity … and theft.
Another one bites the dust. The sad outcome of progressive policies that don’t prosecute petty theft.
These soft on crime virtue signaling wokesters are only harming the poor and middle-income Americans. But then, aren't most all of the biggest wokesters wealthy? They live in the upper-class areas of the cities where it's more policed so they won't fall victim to their own woke policies. Their children's schools are private. They don't even know where the nearest Dollar Store is, much less ever walking into one.
Who would have thought if you put two or three people manning the entire store and pau them next to nothing there'd be theft? I mean, I'm not chasing anyone down the street fr $11 an hour.
Dollar General wasn't doing much better last year either.
Considering more and more upper-middle class people are starting to shop at these stores, you would think that be a potential windfall for these businesses.

They're selling it on FB and Craigslist - I see bundles all the time. Plus they sell it to their neighbors. A lot of the "free" food we gave area residents after the Tops Buffalo, NY shooting - the people took to the local Paki owned stores and the stores bought the stuff and then would resell it at a higher price.
Dollar Tree and Family Dollar Closing 1,000 Stores

Dollar Tree bought Family Dollar several years ago in an effort to go up against Dollar General; it’s primarily Family Dollar stores that are closing (relative to a variety of performance issues, although retail crime has been on the rise across the US).
That said, the majority of states have a felony threshold between $1000 and $1500; in California, it’s $950. Texas, $2500 (and they’re certainly not progressive). Also, that petty theft is a misdemeanor does not mean it’s not actionable.

1. The parent company is a big evil corporation, so they deserve it.
2. The business is run poorly.
3. They pay for insurance, so theft isn't really a big deal.
4. The folks who are stealing need the merchandise more than Dollar Tree.
5. Because I dislike the stores for various reasons, it's not really a big deal.
It's always the fault of something or someone else, but never a consequence of Democrat policy.
Exactly.
These people have no sympathy towards hard working people. They hear the word " company" or " corporations ", they automatically associate these words with big profits.
I know three families own dollar stores. These people are korean american immigrants. They work on average 12 hours a day. Mother recently got a stroke, spent weeks if not months in the hospital, she went back to work already.
