So I watched the video and read the article.

https://abcnews.go.com/amp/Business/...y?id=108078999

"Within the three-month review that ended Feb. 3, Dollar Tree lost $1.71 billion, or $7.85 per share. Last year, Dollar Tree earned $452.2 million, or $2.04 per share."

According to Jeff Davis, Dollar Tree Chief Financial Officer, "Our core operating performance was strong in the fourth quarter, despite some unanticipated developments related to general liability claims."

That usually means bodily injury or property damage claims not petty theft.

But whatever, how would petty theft turn a half a billion dollar profit one year into a nearly two billion dollar loss the next? That doesn't even make sense.

This loss may well be due to theft, who knows? But a $2+billion swing in profits is not due to a sudden increase in shoplifting.

Wrong.

Petty theft is usually under organized crime. Meaning, a person stealing a few hundred bucks worth of items is actually an organized network of thieves doing it.

In some cases, CNBC witnessed low-level shoplifting incidents involving people who appeared to be homeless, and in other cases saw takedowns of alleged organized theft groups that police said were reselling stolen merchandise at flea markets.

4. The folks who are stealing need the merchandise more than Dollar Tree.
5. Because I dislike the stores for various reasons, it's not really a big deal.

It's always the fault of something or someone else, but never a consequence of Democrat policy.
This is perfect and absolutely sums up the the reasonings of the left. They always blame someone else instead of taking personal responsibility.

Perhaps the issue is that almost 17,000 stores can't keep staff. As for organized theft, does anyone really think there are roving bandits shoplifting dollar rolls of tissue paper to sell on the black market??

Another one bites the dust. The sad outcome of progressive policies that don’t prosecute petty theft.
Theft is theft and a thief is a CRIMINAL. This is what makes a high dollar amount threshold for theft to be a crime a joke.

I am trying to figure out why we need so many Dollar Trees, Dollar Generals, Family dollar within minutes of each other? In my town we have 2 dollar trees with in 5 minutes of each other. Dollar General we have 2 that are 3 minutes from each other. If they close some of those stores down they would have enough staff.

Does your statement REALLY make economic, business, or logical sense to you? If it does, you need to study economics, business, and logic a bit more.

The homeless like snacks and drinks...and will smack around a clerk and rob them too.

The problem isn't just merchandise theft, but they don't want to scare people off by mentioning attacks on employees and customers.

The Dollar stores (all brands) are understaffed. Those employees they do have are underpaid for the job responsibilities. Most times the Store GM is running register and has 1 staff member trying to stock shelves. Way to many times I have walked into only 1 employee situation and it is a supervisor. Stores are loaded with carts in isles and shelves not stocked. Even with security cameras shrink cannot be stopped.
