You know... it's interesting looking back at your first couple of paragraphs because I actually kind of agree with you but I would point the finger at the Neo-GOP (my new coined term) for doing what you seemingly accuse only the left of doing, as well.
I believe your point about not serving [in the military] and how that doesn't necessarily disqualify/discredit a person's strategy etc. kind of works against your anti-left rhetoric, since by and large McCain's campaign is all about, "I've been there, I've done that, I served, and I crashed blah blah" and in doing so it disqualifies Obama's take as he's an 'amateur' relatively speaking.
Moreso, when you speak of the zealots and religious right, I would argue that it is THEY who are in general more offensive in professing their agenda, beliefs, etc. H3ll, just look at Jerry Falwell and what an evil spirited, self professing bigot/wannabe demigod he was. If you like I could quote some of his most obscene statements, but when that man was alive, it's pretty much common knowledge (at least to properly educated people) that he said some of the most hate filled vitriolic things to say and he had zealots en mass behind his agenda for miles. If anything, history has shown us that the religious effervesce their opinions much more than any agnostic, atheist, or free minded person has ever done throughout history, by and large. As well, I think your point on zealotry vs. liberal (a contrast you have created which exemplifies differences); specifically on gay people, doesn't tackle the fundamental question which is a. should or shouldn't Gay people be allowed to legally marry. The problem is that religion is too closely tied to marriage and marriage is too closely tied to state. I think there needs to be a cut of the umbilical cord between church and state to solve this invariable problem. There's no LOGICAL reason why a gay couple should not benefit from the same tax incentives that a straight couple can (and do) benefit from.
But I digress... you are allowed to express yourself however you like just like I am. But I simply think you are making a mountain of a mole hill, particularly since zealots have never been denied a bullhorn, thought it would be really nice if they were denied one once in a while... Jesus camp anyone? Creationsim in Science/School? LOL... no place for it. The global economy is competitive enough for young and future Americans w/o this handicap. It's called brain washing and the youths of this country deserve better, and to be competitive in the work force. Unfortunately, the real world is different than the Evangelical world were Science trumps pseudo-science.
Getting back to talking points... I don't think this thread is nullified. Most reasonable people can deduce that Fox has been on the take for a loooong time, regardless of what McClellan has stated or later retracted. That's not to say that there aren't any predominantly left channels, MSNBC, being a fine example. You need to stop outside of the box and realize their propaganda coming from both sides, and a rather jaded take on the news. If you can do that, then this conversation becomes pointless.
