This demonstrates , beyond a doubt , that the answer is:
....Yes....

It's not that it's cool or elitist to hate country music or NASCAR- they're just both BAD forms of entertainment to me. Most country music and NASCAR fans would turn up their noses at my underground hip hop music and rugby and soccer games.
Is rudeness now a virtue in "real America"? Because turning up ANY music and flipping off ANYONE is what we in fake America call rude and childish.

New England ? ! ?
This guy doesn't get out of the big town much.
My big town of a few thousand people in Georgia? That's where this female spent 16 years of her life. Or the suburb of 60000 where I go to college? Yup.. sure is a big town...
I came across this newspaper which was in UCLA's student newspaper. A lot of what the author writes makes sense especially with the elitism in the urban areas of the NOrtheast and West Coast. I've noticed some of this here in the DC area and its a lot worse in NY, Boston, and California. Where I live, the "country" or "Red state" lifestyle is considered anti-establishment which is why I blast country music from my car at full volume (only when I drive through a yuppie neighborhood) and walk around in a John Deere hat and why I'm thinking about getting a Confederate flag.
ONce this rich snobby stiff told me to turn it down, I gave him the bird and told him to f___ himself. I was at a gas station in a snotty area the other week and took satisfaction in that some snotty "***" girls rolled up their windows when I blasted Kellie PIckler and Taylor Swift. And I only do this is in this kind of community because I don't resent working class folks or African Americans (these are ordinary people, the heart and soul of the real America). Just because Obama is black doesn't mean he's in touch with the working class. He is an elitist, pandering politician who uses division and fear and arrogance to get votes. And yes, his elitist remarks about small town USA panders to voters in California, New Jersey, New England, New York, Seattle and Portland.
Is the urban coastal liberal elite out of touch with the real America? And is Barack OBama part of the coastal liberal elite or does he represent the real America like he likes us to believe he does?
Taylor Swift and this pickle woman are not real country and if you came through my hood blasting that stuff I'd tell you to turn it down also. Now, if you were playing Loretta Lynn or Emmylou Harris I'd give you a thumbs up.
Interesting article. I never thought about it but I guess perhaps there is a misguided notion that if you like country music, you are considered "white trash", less educated, hick, what have you. I never thought of it in those terms, however. Until the age of 28 (I'm 30 now), I absolutely hated country music. I hated that twang, the awful instruments, all of it. Then it hit me one day while my husband and I were driving to the gym that I actually love country music!
My husband, born and raised country, would sneak in a country song here and there and just to keep the peace, I let him play it without any complaints. I think subconsciously during our 4 years of marriage (and 5 years of dating before that), I just started to slowly grow a taste for it. Unbeknownst to me, soon "putting up with his country music" became "oooh, what's he gonna play this time?!" Now, I can't live without it. I'm a citygirl and I'm Asian so I'd be the last person you think would like country but I do. I love it and would pay good money to see Garth Brooks in concert if he ever performed again!
I can't say anything about NASCAR b'c I've never been to a race but hubby loves it. He's also mentioned the same thing that other posters have said that one of the best parts about the races is seeing the people that go there. It doesn't get any more blue-collar America than that. I still refuse to go as I will stick out like a sore thumb but maybe one day.
For those who do not care for country music, give it a try. Read the lyrics, try to understand it. There's a song called "The Cowboy Song" by Garth Brooks and even though I knew nothing about wrangling or herding cows, when my husband explained to me what the lyrics meant, I was moved to tears. It's a beautiful song.
You still don't like Country. Garth Brooks is an imposter. Now if you were listening to Ernest Tubbs or Ray Price that would be different.
sorry but New York City is Quintessential America and just because it isn't like Talledega doesn't mean anything. The city represents everything we are as Americans from ethnic areas to Wall Street and capitalism.
There is nothing reprehensible about being "elite" There is nothing reprehensible about being "liberal". Does this OP imply that if the two are put together, they become something bad? What is wrong with being a Liberal Elite?
This is such a silly thread, so I had to revive it so we can make fun it some more.
Yep, would like to see the NeoNuts do some posting now. I'd just loooove to see them groan and moan now that we are on the eve of a real leader coming into office.

'Real leader"? LMAO Ok. Well Follow him then. A real leader has a lot of qualities that Mr. Obama does NOT have. Sure he has Charisma( according to some) but I , personally. am not inspired by him and fail to see the appeal he holds to so many people. He ain't anything special folks. I prefer to put my confidence in a "leader' that can lead by example, not by blowing smoke and peaing on my back and telling me it's raining. Thats why I live out in the weeds and cling to what many consider an archaic lifestyle. To me this is "real" America. I ain't moaning and groaning bout anything and I feel America is represented by way more than just one place and type of folk. To blithely call everyone that does not share your views a "nutjob" is pretty arrogant IMHO. It's bad enough to underestimate ones enemies, but to underestimate ones fellow countrymen could be disasterous. However this new administration turns out we are all in this together at the end of the day and all the class and culture war needs to end. Hang together or hang seperate but hang we will.
