I have no issue with legalizing prostitution. seems another means to lessen the criminal impact. I'd also legalize drugs too. With the reduction in the crime we could reduce the number of police and save a fortune, not counting stop wasting $ on the war on hookers and drugs.

If there weren't clients called johns there wouldn't be prostitutes,so it is a two-way street

You are correct. We should legalize all personal behavior.

Yes, it is a two way street. And that's a good thing. People making decisions about their lives is called FREEDOM!

Well if you are blatantly killing yourself with a harsh drug and harming the lives of those around you then I think we have a bigger problem than someone who simply gets an HJ from a massage therapist after a rub down.

This is not a free country, this is a country ruled by religious fascism much like the middle east but with less harsh punishments.

Anything that is a victimless crime, like drugs, should be legalized. Unfortunately we've allowed government to grow to such size that it is obsessed with micro-managing and controlling absolutely everything.

I do think that prostitution should be legalized and I think I have some pretty good reasons for taking that point of view. First of all, consider the life of a prostitute in America or most any other nation, it's a life of misery and danger. Also look at the numbers of prostitutes who have been the victims of murder (remember the Green River Killer?). By the very nature of their business they're putting themselves into risky situations by getting into a car with a total stranger or whatever the situation might be. If prostitution was legalized it could also be regulated by the government, the safety of the women would be greatly improved because they wouldn't have to just walk the streets, they could work in an establishment for that purpose like the ones they have in Nevada. Health and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases could also come under strict guidelines which would include frequent testing for STD's and the use of condoms could be made mandatory. They could also be taxed like any other business.
The main point I'm trying to make is that prostitution is going to occur whether it's legal or not so the question I think we should be asking ourselves is which situation is better, women roaming the streets and putting their lives at risk or recognizing the fact that we as a society could greatly improve the quality of life of prostitutes by removing the criminal element in it?
I happened to watch a documentary about one of those places in Nevada a couple of years ago and they interviewed a number of women who do this for a living. These women were making really good money and enjoying this very unusual lifestyle. Not every woman wants to be a homemaker or live a traditional way of life. I really don't think that's such a bad thing.
Well, I know this one's going to get the tongues wagging on City Data so go ahead and let me have it! What is your opinion?
It should be legalized as well as marijuana.

I'll probably get slack for this, but I guess I'm one of those rare types that thinks that an intimate act like sex is better between two people who care about each other as opposed to two strangers making a business transaction.
I think an intimate act is better between two people aso.

The majority of women would not do anything like this, most women who get into this profession really don't want to, thats the risk they take, it puts food on the table and its more than welfare will provide, they are taking the risks of STD's or being killed. Their choice.

Alot of young gals leave home and get caught up in this they don't want to go home for some reason.

Some can be junkies and thats how they support their habit.

The high class ladies of the night do very well and they know who they are dealing with, rich clientèle, even politicans.

It takes alot of guts to get into this professon, I don't think prostitutes are bad people, I think alot of them are better than some of the people on this forum.

Apart from the obvious issue of sexual immorality, if Prostitution was legalized on a large scale , marriages would be increasingly under strain. It is understood as fact that one reason men become hooked on pornography is because of the accessibility, at work and at home. With the simple click of a mouse you're surfing in sin city, a visual smorgasbord.

The presense of multiple brothels within a relatively short driving distance would present a slightly similar temptation. With the ease of accessibility, men, even those who may love their wives, might entertain the idea of relieving a little sexual tension with a younger and possibly more attractive woman. Some would claim that if a man is going to cheat on his wife, he'll find a way to do it no matter what. I strongly disagree. The introduction of previously unavailable options into a conservative environment is sometimes just enough to spark experimentation. After all, it's not as difficult as developing a relationship which could lead to adultery. There's no wining, dining, dating, or making promises to one day leave the wife. It's just recreation. A very private and moderately priced form of relaxing recreation.

The idea that the criminal element would be affected is only partly true. A large number of young women who engage in prostitution are teens. These are girls who would be off the radar, where government regulation is concerned. Another area which would not be improved with the legalization of Prostitution is, the number of young women who use prostitution to support drug habits.

I lived in Japan for about 5 years. If prostitution was to be legalized in that country, it would have little affect on street prostitution, primarily because it is virtually non-existent, apart from some special arrangments being made in business hotels. But, in a nation like the U.S., I believe that legal prostitution, on a large scale, would only contribute to an already declining sense of morality and would further serve to damage the nuclear family in our nation, which is already suffering significantly.

In addition to Christian opposition, it would also seem logical that feminists might perceive this as being demeaning to women, causing them to be viewed as play things or as human beings existing simply to service men.
