What's with all of the melodrama regarding Barack Obama taking the Presidency.

Does the bigotry run so deep in some that the thought of a Black man running the country drives them to hysterics?

No. Most Black Americans do not think that he is a "Messiah" - that title belongs to our Lord Jesus Christ
No. Black Americans do not think Barack Obama is going to be a "Disneyland Dad" for Black America
Yes. We believe that he will be fair and unbiased and make decision for the benefit of the country as a whole and not for individual groups.

Or will his most important constituency hypocritically say that everything he did was right, and that he is the saviour of the world, even if conditions within the black community continued to nose dive in his presidential term?
Are you serious? I'm from a country where ALL of the politicians are blacks. It's every man for himself just like in any other country. Also, Obama is 1/2 black... err why should he do anything for black people that he wouldn't do for whites? Ever heard of Haiti or Sudan?

The weird thing is that the non-blacks I know just LOOOVE Obama.

No matter who is in office those of us who did not go to Ivy League schools and have to work for a living are still in big doo doo. Well, actually if Obama wins, ppl who want socialized healthcare are NOT in big doo doo. Now, people in the Medical profession who currently earn high wages… Since I have no interest in paying for everyone's healthcare, I can't envision what BARAK could possibly do for me.

I personally could not care less if Obama or Mccain were Chinese.

Lower my taxes. Strengthen the dollar. Stop wasting my money on things like section-8 housing, supplemental healthcare for children (I don't have any and honestly I don't care to pay for SCHIP or whatever it was called), the "war" against drugs, useless government workers and excessive business regulation. Not to mention the CORPORATE welfare that they just gave the Harvard-educated snots at wall street. To me that was a slap in the face to working class Americans no matter what color, religion or background. BOTH Obama and Mccain voted for the bailout.

I think the whites I know who support Obama like him because they love me. They see how hurtful racism is, and I suspect they hope that Obama's presidency will make racism less accepted in the US so I will have a more pleasant life.

The sad thing is I don't like Mccain or his wife, either. They seem unappealing. My favorite Dem/Repub candidate is Sarah Palin. I guess I'm crazy, but she seems forceful yet feminine, and I have no proof that she's a racist. Now some of her supporters . . . (shudders).

No matter who wins, I will just have to deal with it and adapt. I adapted to Bush. I hated him at first, but in retrospect that’s because his racist followers scared the living poo out of me. Nevertheless, it turns out that:
1. Bush appointed Condy and I LOVE her.
2. Bush's tax policies for capital gains/business-related taxes actually benefit ME.
3. No Child Left Behind seemed like a joke, but it actually worked in my state.
4. Bush HABLA ESPANOL and since I also hablo, I can tell you that his Spanish is actually pretty good. No matter how dumb he is on other fronts, how many presidents speak a foreign language well?
5. Bush supported a path to citizenship for ALL immigrants.

You can't tell a book by its cover.

One of his rare lucid moments, though truthfully, it was likely for all the wrong reasons...

Invest in some KFC stock. His tax plan calls for paying people to stay poor. Literally giving people money that have no tax liabilities to begin with. Heck, I might have to look into becoming a welfare queen myself. Sounds like a pretty good deal to live off the fruits of others.

Anyone see where this is going? The subsidization of poverty only begets more poverty. Look at the New Deal and Great Society and where we are today. Middle class is taking it in the rear from big government subsidizing corporate and social welfare interests.

How many of them are children? And there is no group of people who have no tax liabilities to begin with. The average person in the bottom-earning quintile faces a federal tax burden of about 5%. You think that because the EITC -- basically welfare in exchange for work -- makes someone's income tax burden zero or less, they have no other burden. But payroll and federal excise taxes take a bigger bite out of this group than any other. Then there are state and local income taxes, nearly all of which are more regressive than the federal tax is. Then there are sales taxes. Add it all up.

Yeah, give that a try. I'm sure that will work out well for you.

Poverty rate in 1960: 22.2%. Poverty rate in 1970: 12.6%. Poverty rate in 2000: 11.3% Poverty rate in 2007: 12.5%. Probably the New Deal speaks for itself...

Prosperity gained through living on the savings of other countries. Cheap credit. The debt keeps building. Social security is a ponzi scheme, government can't meet its liabilities, and our line of credit is gone. The game is up. We're about to see some real poverty in this country. Reality sucks so you are welcome to go back living in candyland. buh bye

What is good about Obama is that he is a diverse person. He is multicultural. He has lived in other countries apart from the USA.

He is also a positive role model for Black people.

But he did not make promises to a specific group, but ALL of America.

President Obama has lived in both communities. He is in a unique position to know where the problems reside in BOTH communities.

I think his motivation is sincere in wanting to improve the country and join us together as Americans. I think we can trust that he makes the best decisions for the country.

He got as far as he has in life by knowing the importance of setting goals for oneself. The nation, too, can have goals. If you do not have goals you are moved every which way by the winds of change. With goals, YOU are the mover.

I think his life and accomplishments is a great inspiration for us all, and if there is an ancillary advantage that he gives hope to minorities, that is an added bonus.

My heart goes out to those black young people on tv who are celebrating and feeling the sky is the limit now. They finally feel a real acceptance of a sort that this country has blocked them from for so long. Some may say this is just their perception, but I am not one of those, and besides, perception is a huge contributor to our motivation in life.

We only will attempt what we believe is possible.

Obama is THE man for THIS time. It is as though the hand of providence has sent him to America in our time of need, to clean up the mess we now find ourselves in.

I am more than pleased that he is our President.
