This is something I also wonder about. I'm almost always wearing a Star of David necklace, and I assume most people understand what that means. But apparently they do not, or just don't care, which I find very disrespectful (the latter). It does help at the holidays, though... just the other day I was at Marshall's, and the clerk wished everyone a "Merry Christmas" until me - she gave me an awkward "Uh, have a nice day!" which was sweet even though it was about 9pm. But hey, at least she made an effort!
I have several Jewish friends and they always wish me a Merry Christmas. I always wish them a Happy Hanukkah. As to strangers I doubt they really look at your jewelry most time.
Christmas is almost upon us... what sort of seasonal greeting/farewell do you use? "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" ?
I personally make an effort to say MERRY CHRISTMAS to people.
I say Happy Holidays or things like.......have a nice night. It should be interpreted as follows: I'm trying to be nice but I don't need or want to know you well enough to figure out what your religious affiliation if any is. So, take this bit of friendliness as it is. 'Cuz its all your getting.

That seems logical... my friends & I do the same, although it's not really necessary in either direction.

I don't expect people to notice, but you'd be surprised how many do! It has cut back on the Merry Christmases this year, but it doesn't really matter - I wear the necklace all year (most of the time), and don't care what people say to me anyway. Yesterday at the mall I got about 3-4 "Merry Christmases" a few "Happy Holidays" and a couple of "Happy Chanukahs." As long as people are saying nice things to me, I'm not going to complain about any of it.
P.S. I'm sooooooo insulted that on the day of Chanukah (now), there is no official Happy Chanukah greeting on the C-D pages..........
Just kidding. Don't you all see how silly it is for you to fight & complain about something so trivial? I was lighting the menorah last night, and realized the pettiness of such a debate - not that I didn't realize it earlier, but things came into perspective once the holiday officially began. Happy Holidays to one and all!

Just wait...soon it will be January 1, and we can start taking bets on the likelihood of someone starting a January 1 isn't New Year's on every calendar in the world, so why should I say "Happy New Year's" thread!

LOL... that would be funny, but it seems people only care about reverence to Christmas in this country.

Some do, yes. Others demand to know why St. Swithin's Day gets shortchanged.
