Sure. As of right now, the government subsidizing GM and then further controlling their means of production by engaging themselves in the hiring and firing of executives and developing reconstruction plans is about as "socialist" as it gets. If infact they do return control to the private entity, then they will have taken a step back from socialist policies.
However, even not using "socialism" to justify my argument, their roll in this entire mess is a huge step over the line of the enumerated powers of the federal government. Or, show me in the constitution where this action with GM is allowed? How about healthcare? How about cap and trade?
The constitution is pretty explicit into the enumerated powers of the feds. All of that is taking a back seat with people who agree with the policies being passed in violation. When the righties passed legislation which violated this amendment (patriot act), the lefties screamed bloody murder. At least I have the logic to call both of them for what they are.
Your argument about GM is weak at best... Obama went in, swung the axe a bit, restructured and as GM is able to stand on it's own two feet Obama will then step away. Health Care, sounds like your pretty much in the minority when it comes to that issue. Majority of Americans do what some sort of reform whether it be single payer or public option.
Obama went in and swuing the axe chopping offf the heads of the people that keep GM afloat and giving the unions the heads. He did the same thing in constructing his stimulus in payiong back speaicl interest groups and leving about 50 billion total for actual stimulus spending. We are now see the result;not a bump form the stimulus ;housing the second priority aftre the banks still in the pit.The ecomony still in bad shape with amssive increases in deficit as never seen before.

Where do you get your numbers at? Glenn Beck....
Here is a breakdown of the Stimulus Package 2009. You Repubs really do need to break ranks with the clowns at FAUX (Propaganda) NEWS...
Don't know if you know but the Chicago Tribune is a conservative newpaper... The Sun-Times is their more liberal newspaper.
David Greising must be one of their liberal lackeys. Having a "slobbering love affair" with his boy Bam. And hoping a dumbed-down public will believe his drivel.

Sorry you must be greatly confused with FAUX and the GOP... You want to talk about dumbing down? Look no further than Beck & Company, now theres a source...

Why haven't they done the same with Fannie and Freddie ?
Like many U. of C. economists -- one of whom, Austan Goolsbee, is one of Obama's key economic advisers -- Zingales believes in a limited role in government. In the face of the economic crisis, though, many at the U. of C. have adjusted their thinking to the current realities and can allow for a somewhat more active role for government.
