I remember going to his house around 93, right after Bill Clinton was elected and he was going off on how the United states was going to fall into chaos. I remember he bought a shotgun, to protect his home from the rioters and looters that were going to come in after this civil collapse. He stocked up on water and non-perishables, and turned in all his stocks for gold.

Its funny talking to him now because he will say how gold lost so much value during the 90's. Then after the bubble burst in the tech boom, he lost his job and had to sell all his gold stocks for next to nothing. Then right after that, the gold has steadily gone up in price. Hindsight right?

As for politics, and me not knowing any democrats. I am sure I have met democrats before in my life, but it was always on a very casual basis, so I don't know for sure what political affiliations they had based on our limited communications. None of my good friends and family are democrats. But keep in mind that I am living in an upper-middle class mostly white suburb of Oklahoma city, and Oklahoma voted about 66% for Mccain in last years election.
My granddaughter and her husband live in OKC> She just graduated from OU, after getting her first degree form CSU. Her husband is a senior at OU. They are political and have both republican and democrat friends, all are involved in what is going on in the world. He was raised in Colorado and she in North TExas. They too live in a middle class neighborhood. They just bought their second home. They have been married 4 years, have a 2 year old little girl and are doing quite well financually considering their age. I don't know if this qualifies them for earning the "ignorant" label you put on people who are republicans.

As for the gold steadily going up since the early 90s? I do not know for sure, but I think the real increase in its value has been in the past 5 years or so. What does what your uncle did in the 90s have to do with being ignorant or not? I think I missed the point.

This is what usually happens and president Bush's administration definitely capitalized on it during the 2004 elections.

You have many uneducated, uninformed, naive, and gullible people living in some of those red states. What politicians did and are actually doing now is present false information to the ignorant voters and pass it off as being fact. Since many of those unintelligent individuals do not know any better, and do not themselves do research they believe a lot of the scare tactics.
Those politicians and those pushing for their republican candidates will play to some of those people by throwing bait such as (Our candidate is a christian and his opponent is not) OR (Our opponent is a communist and wants to take your rights) OR (We are Pro life and he is not ) OR (Our opponent wants to ban religion and tax your church) OR (Our candidate is a true american) etc. etc. All one has to do is look at some of the clips from the Tea party patriot event this past weekend. The following is what I witnessed from some of the people that were being interviewed.

- Facism, communist, and socialism is all the same.
- We do not need a "Czar", this is not Russia" Yet, they did not realize that past presidents including Reagan had so called "Czar's", including a "drug czar"
- We need a Christian President
- Obama is a Muslim
- One person when asked what policies in specific was she against could only answer 1, then had a confused look.
-"This president is wasting alot of money, the last president didn't" Not realizing that the big spending started in the last administration.

There were many more misinformation they were claiming as facts when indeed it wasn't.

I will conclude with this. IGNORANCE IS EXPENSIVE, AND WE ARE PAYING FOR MANY PEOPLES IGNORANCE.

I dunno. I live in dallas and work with people of all political persuasions.

I just watched a liberal (self professed) try to work an automatic paper towel dispenser

It was kind of like putting tape on a cats paw. One could infer a great deal of ignorance watching what I just witnessed….

If one were into that sort of thing.

No way. We all know that Mississippi beats Massachussets in terms of income, healthcare, % of Ph D, cultural insitutions and even personal fitness.

LOL, these people are funny. I bet most of them believe that Stalin was a Czar himself (of curse "Romanov" makes them think of some Italian franchise restaurant)

speaking of ignorance.... are we talking about general stupidity/lack of education and IQ or are we talking about general ignorance of the political process?

because those are very different things.

Jay Leno does a "man on the street" thing in California (not a bastion of conservative thought) where he asks any number of basic Political/American Civics questions. 8 out of 10 cant tell you who the VP is. most dont know a thing about what is happening in politics.

Sean Hannity does something similar in NYC. The results are the same. Even when you are talking to well educated people. MOST dont know much about the actual political process. IGNORANCE is a common American malidy.

So long as we continue importing 70 percent of what we consume on a daily basis, none of what we're talking about in this thread is gonna change whats happening to our country and our way of life.

yes, we are paying for it; look what we have!!1 As for people voting for or against Obama because he may or may not be a muslim, I do not think one state was won or lost because of that.

Yes, what happens in one adminsitration started in the previous one, certainly in the beginning, or does that only count when the new regime takes over from republicans?

Did you know you have ignorant, uneducated people living in both red and blue states and did you know ignorant and uneducated are not always the same? That is like saying people with money have class, people without do not. I know more people with class that have never been rich than rich people with true class.
