Yesterday I was in the room while my girlfriend was watching the Oprah interview of Sarah Palin. While my mind hasn't changed about the insufferable Palin or the annoying Oprah, something really stuck out in my mind.
Oprah said that 99.9% of women do all the "heavy lifting" when it comes to families. How is that not a sexist thing to say? I don't know about you all, but my father not only worked to earn the money for my family, but would fly back early from a business trip just to go to my little league game or to take me to the Warriors game. All of my friends had fathers who taught them how to play ball, how to be a man, how to deal with men (for those of my friends who are women), how to drive, how to fix things in the house, how to cook, how to do algebra, etc. To say that women do everything is not only incredibly sexist, it is false.

As a little league coach, I can say for certain that many of the fathers contribute more to their child's development than their mothers. Some of the kids have mothers that I've never met, and yet the father is at every practice and game.

Why is it still okay for a woman to say something like that, but if a man said "you're a woman, it's your job to clean, cook and take care of the kids" he'd be considered a sexist jerk?

Because a lot of women still have to learn to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" which is what both sexes and all races have to learn.

Two wrongs don't make a right, and it's time we treat everyone according to who they are without labels.

Labeling is self-serving, narrow-minded, an excuse to attack, and a cop-out to treating every human being with dignity and compassion.

And no, it's not okay. It speaks more about the woman than about the men she's attacking. (Same thing when men do it against women.)

Welcome to America where being a strong man and particularily a strong engaged father figure us frowned upon these days.

Because women have to pop out the kids, and if the man leaves the woman gets stuck doing everything.

Now, I agree with the first poster...hush and go mow the lawn..or lift something heavy. Isnt that what men are for in the first place?

Yes, and when a man tells you to be barefoot and pregnant, he's doing the same thing you're doing to him! And it angers women when that happens.

One can laugh about all this but I think we should all just make peace.

Plus, women should choose the right kind of guy to impregnate her in the first place! I know sometimes they turn into deadbeats but in most cases, they are deadbeats way before they were dads and boyfriends.

Own one's own reality and life, not blaming anyone for any decisions we make...is EMPOWERMENT.

Many women are not only sexist towards men but also towards other women. Like not having as much confidence in another woman's ability as they would had a man been on the job. It's pretty lame all around and the real reason we'll be waiting a long time for a female president.

That is due to, in my belief and experience as a woman, that we are sensitive by nature (in general). Biologically we're designed differently, and one of our purposes as a woman is that we look for ways to improve mankind. That is why we are given the role of motherhood. To raise the next generation, we have to teach, improve, fix, help, give advice, explain to our kids and that is what we take with us outside of the family.

But improving and fixing other people outside of our kids doesn't go down easily with colleagues, especially female ones at the workplace because they also tend to do the same thing. Men accept this type of thing better because they're used to their wives or moms keeping them in line.

So i believe that is what increases chances of "catfights" or "petty squabbles". I personally try to avoid all that but it's hard not to be caught up in it!

A lot of women I know work better with men than other women. I know a couple of women who can't stand the female sex. Not a lot but there are a few. They only have male friends.

I think a balanced work team would have both sexes. Women can make good leaders though (note I didn't say "better" leaders) because our sensitivity benefits others, creates an egalitarian atmosphere and democratic team playing.

Although of course there are bad female leaders as well as bad male ones.
