That was my thought. I have heard a little about this--a few interviews with women that prefer to wear the veil--some who do not.

I thought France could not support US involvement in ?Afghanistan/Iraq--anywhere--although human rights are being violated.

I should become more informed.

In a couple of generations, children of spanish speaking immigrants in America won't know Spanish anymore than the descendants of the masses of Germans that came over here today know German. Of course, we delay that process by catering to Spanish speakers, but really, if Spanish speakers want to remain ignorant of the dominant language and culture, they do so at their own peril, and have no one to blame but themselves for non-advancement in this country.
The geographical locations of Sweden and Germany would support this statement. Perhaps incorrectly I assumed that France and England experienced greater diversity of cultures.
I am certain I was told this at some point in a political discussion.
So things have changed/are changing--across the globe.

I thought, at least in one case, it was no veil. This might be different from state to state--although each and every state is required to adhere to Homeland Security guidelines.
