Now try to make an argument that Southern states pay more to the federal government than they get back. I'd love to be proven wrong on that. Looking forward to your analysis.

how much of that money is federal pay and the like, and how much is actual money going to the state?

you also have to include federal welfare and the like, I wonder what the numbers would look like then?

Secession in 1861 was not treason, and that is why Robert E. Lee, Jeff Davis, P.G.T. Beauregard and others died of old age.
Their Citizenship was revoked and their property confiscated, it was not until after the Civil War that the Supreme Court ruled.
Then again you don't have to believe me, go ahead a seced, I'll hold the rope

Granted, Southern secession is highly unlikely, but I can picture it happening a lot more easily than I can see the scenarios you've described.
Have you not heard of the desire of the left to sneak some kind of amnesty bill through? What happens in California, for example,if that kind of thing happens? I see the chance that more Mexicans will flow over the border there and in not too long they will have a majority to vote with. Very weird people live there in too large numbers to keep something like this from happening.

Can't say much about the property, but they died owning something (whether it be a house or dormitory or something), and in particular Davis and Lee had their citizenship re-instated by Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter during their presidencies.

This time the North should let them go instead of fighting a stupid war to force the South to stay.
