No real surprise here. Remember this study doesn't show that all conservatives on average have a lower IQ than liberals, but conservatives that identify themselves as social conservatives AKA Christian Taliban tend to have a much lower IQ than liberals and conservatives that are socially liberal. Explains a lot about some of the post and posters on this board.

Can you please describe what religious beliefs fall under your definition of "Christian Taliban"?

Killing abortion doctors would probably fall under that banner.

Well.

I certainly will change my opinion now.

The liberal left knows what's best for me so I will oblige by allowing them to make every single decision for me.

I feel stupid.

Please help me.....

Leftists believe in big government whatever. It doesn't have to fit neatly under a socially conservative or socially liberal ideology. If you support a federal ban on abortion, you are a leftist. If you support wiretapping, you are a leftist...and so on. Anything that violates one's freedoms when they do not affect another individual is leftist. Abortion is a little muddier because you are arguably dealing with another human life. But, banning gay marriage is definitely 110% leftist. This helps to clearly distinguish regimes such as the Nazis and Soviets, BOTH of whom were overwhelmingly leftist governments. For further information:

Listen from 0:40 to 1:40. Hopefully this clears things up. Let me know if you have additional questions. Have a great day!

I've heard many people here labeled as Christian Taliban...yet they never killed or planned to kill an abortion doctor.

BINGO which is why I ask for a description from the OP. Let's see what we get.

This explains why they vote against their own best interests so often.

Its actually quite ridiculous.

Why on God's green earth would a middle class family support even 10% of GOP ideas is beyond me?

I don't want to put words into anyone's mouth, but I think I understood what he meant. To be socially conservative is to imply that government should play a role in deciding what you can or can't do [and] with whom. This is an example of the expansion of the role of government. Expansion of the role of government is a leftist principle, even if most leftists aren't socially conservative.

Edit: nevermind, I overlooked his post answering your question.

I think I can agree with the OP. I completely identify myself as a conservative, but thinking that two people of the same sex shouldn't not be allowed to marry and/or thinking that what they do is your business scarifices a few IQ points.

You won't get one because the moniker is more of a knee jerk response to some's prejudice against muslims.
