They'd feel right at home....for those states are known for religious fundamentalism, homophobia, and racism..

Yep, and they would get the oil, the river, and the breadbasket.

And as soon as their country was extremely successful, again, the north would invade it,,, AGAIN.

I'm a coastie and for long was biased against "the South" thinking it was some backwards religious loon region of the USA. I'm sure parts of it are. But now that I live in "the South" my view on regionalism and regional attitudes has been completely transformed.

I've experienced parts of the Pac Northwest that felt more pre civil rights era than anywhere I've been in the south, thus far.

The OP's idea, this is a big topic. But all I have to say for Americans is don't judge a region until you have travelled it, lived in it, experienced it. The North vs. South thing is pretty silly these days. The USA is a fairly young, feisty and incredibly diverse nation. It makes sense to wonder if there should be divisions. But it's probably not going to happen. Not unless we're willing to see our country go through an awful civil war. I don't think most Americans these days are really equipped to deal with war. Wal marts sell out of goods in 24 hours whenever there is a blip of a catastrophe, such as 1999 turning to 2000. The majority of people don't want to live in tent cities during war times or hunker down in their homes with arms. The US American populace is honestly too naive to understand what this would entail.

Oh my goodness. The United States isn't going to split up over this. Obama is on his way out. His approval rate is 31% Source Daily Presidential Tracking Poll - Rasmussen Reports™

No one in his right mind would vote for that guy again. He's a joke.

We'll vote him and all his socialist friends out of office. He got elected because he is a charismatic speaker. So was David Koresh, but that doesn't make him a good leader. Folks were sick of Bush and Co. And with good reason. So they voted for the only alternative. People who voted for Obama were desperate for change. Most of them are smart enough to see that this was not the change they bargained for. You can't blame them. He is a good salesman. After he is voted out, he should look for a job on a used car lot.

We're not going to split up over this. And shut-up Crusader. No one except you and your loony stormfront friends want a "white homeland". We just need to get through the next couple of years. This healthcare garbage could be the best thing for the conservatives, the Republicans, and the tea-party folks. It's a wake up call to all Americans who value this country and our Constitution.

No.

If global warning experts are right there won't be any reason to split up the nation.

L.A. & San Francisco will be reclaimed by the Pacific. Much of Sea-Tac will similarly be underwater. - Left Coast liberals gone.

Chicago will be swallowed by Lake Michigan and St. Louis will drown in the confluence of the Missouri & Mississippi Rivers - Midwest Liberals gone.

NYC, Boston and DC will be underwater - East Coast Liberals gone.

That right there solves much of what is wrong with this country!

Approval ratings are prone to surprising change

Who are his "socialist friends" and how does that have bearing on his work? Show me any president and I will show you bizarre and covert connections with communist and socialist and religiously bizarre leaders.

Do you really think US Americans are so stupid that they ONLY voted for Obama because he was a "charismatic speaker." You really think your fellow citizens are this stupid that this is the ONLY reason they voted for him. Life must suck for you. Move to Costa rica.

Change. Everyone is complaining about the change Obama promised and has not delivered. SHI@ people!!!!! Have you no patience? Do you think these things happen overnight? Or even in a few years?????

about "Crusader" and the Stormfront people. I agree. Shut the heck up you folks. Theres a website for you to post on freely and it is not this one.

And that my dear friends, is what is so ironic about this post. We can't even agree on where the splits will be.

Did anyone consider the military advantage of any given part, like coasts vs being landlocked? How about access to rail or roads for trade, farmland and manufacturing supplies?

Yea, we'll split alright, as soon as Congress votes on the final 'distribution bill'!

Yes. I do think many of my fellow Americans are that stupid. Especially the ones who live their lives on public assistance. They'll vote for whomever continues to throw money at them. And they are either too dumb, too uneducated, or too lazy to care that the free money they so willingly accept is nothing but hush money. Obama is going to keep them dumb and poor. The Democrats will give them just enough to keep them quiet and get their vote.

Oh he's delivered. It's just not the kind of change we wanted. At least not for those of us who have found a way not to completely suck at life.

A physical separation would not solve the problem nor would it be practical. Many, such as I, have family, friends, neighbors, etc. who align with one or the other party. I have yet to meet a person who's entire network of relationships was comprised of people who were either all Democrats or all Republicans (although I suppose that is possible). Then there are the non-affiliated Americans.
