Morning fellas. I love the start of training camp, I love the start of football season. By the end of August I'll be sick of the pretend games and ready for the show to start. But this is a critical preseason for Mr. Griffin so it has my interest.

It will, indeed be an interesting year, at least the first half of it!
On a side note, I was bored the other night (wife and baby were asleep and I was wide awake) so I got on You Tube looking up old Redskins games and came across a game back in 1989 against the Eagles. I honestly couldn't remember who was supposed to have won this game, so I watched the entire game. It was Mark Rypien's first full year as a starting quarterback, and I think it was Gearld Riggs' first year with the team as well. Man, those 'skins started out hot in that game! First play of the game, bomb down field to Gary Clark for an 80-yard touchdown! Got the ball back and the second play of the game for the 'skins, Riggs breaks free for a long touchdown run (couldn't remember the yards.) I thought I was going to watch a pure out butt kicking by the Redskins. They were up 30-14 (I think it was) at halftime. Well, those doggone Eagles came back and beat the 'skins to the tune of 42-37! I have to admit, even though the Redskins lost that game, it was a very good game to watch. I considered this Eagles squad to be one of the most talented squads they ever had, even though this particular unit didn't make it to the Super Bowl. You had Randal Cunningham, Keith Byars, Mike Quick, Jerome Brown, Clyde Simmons, Reggie White, Seth Joyner, Keith Jackson, and Chris Carter. I was always afraid for the 'skins to play those Eagles.
Anyways, it was still an enjoyable game to watch and it brought back a lot of memories. Even though the Redskins were going through a short rebuilding time during the '88 and '89 season, you could tell that they still had a swagger about themselves. They knew that they were always good enough to make it to the Super Bowl. Would love to see them get back to that!
Remember that game well. My best friend is an Eagles fan and during the Buddy Ryan era we had a great rivalry. I couldn't stand those Buddy Ryan teams and the Eagles are still my most hated team because of their fans.
I was playing in a fall softball league that day with the 2nd game ending about 1:15. By the time I got in my car it was already something like 14-0. Riggs had 275 yards I believe but made a critical fumble late when all he had to do was run out of bounds. I can still hear the announcer saying "this is a live ball!!!!" as I watched in horror as the Eagles DB takes it down the left sideline. Cunningham to Jackson a play later ended it, I was crushed.

Yeah, watching that fourth quarter, it came back to me what was going to happen, I just couldn't remember how it happened. I started getting that sinking feeling. And yes, I remembered that fumble! Might have been why Earnest Byner started getting more carries as the season progressed. At least that '89 season ended on a high note though. The skins were at 6-6 and won the last four games, but still missed the playoffs. I look back on that game against the Eagles and knowing now that if Riggs had held onto the ball, the 'skins would have pulled that game out, and they probably would have made the playoffs that year.
I think they said it was an MCL. He'll miss the rest of training camp. Was going to miss the first game anyway, so maybe this won't affect him too much. I'm just hoping Hall is healthy and ready, because it looks like we're going to need him.

If its the game I remember, Riggs had over 200 years rushing.
