Combining disability theory (sociology) with literary criticism and encouraged the reading of texts from a disabled perspective. It will all start with horror fiction and film because I've identified with monsters, outsiders and 'others' from those sorts of stories ever since I can remember. I want to give academic weight to my interpretations and encourage others to look at the source material in similar ways while applying it to their own lives and experiences.
Back on topic (sorta), not only would being in a relationship take time and energy away from what I consider my life's work, it's also something other people do. Largely, I suspect, because society and family expects it of them and they often agree to it without first asking themselves what they really want. I would feel like a sellout, and a traitor to my ideals, if I did that.
