Multi-pronged iconoclasm is the ultimate cool.

How about this... What is "uncool?" What does it look like when someone definitely is NOT cool?
Fonzie is cool. Fonzie jumping a shark is uncool, especially because of the leather jacket. Jules is cool. Yolanda is not.

This is an awesome post. Cool is so hard to define but I really think it's a trait that some people are just born with. They are just plain "comfortable in their own skin" and they don't ever, ever try to be cool. They just are and they don't care what other people think. It's such an attractive trait and I think it's closely aligned to charisma because it's not a trait you can develop. IMO. You "got it" or you "ain't." And most of us ain't. Which makes it that much more indefinable and admired...

Growing up in school, "being cool" was something I very very much wanted to be. I never felt like I was 'cool' growing up. I wonder...is there ANY 13, 14 yr old who feels like they're cool? Even if other people might think they are? Just wondering.

On Facebook, one of the groups I used to be in was a high school alumni group of our local high school. Also, I used to be a member of Classmates...and someone had described me (it never shows who says what, unless you pay money) with all these awesome superlatives...and I am convinced they have me mixed up with someone else. I almost want to tell them..."no...you have me mixed up with the other Sassy. I was the one with the cat-eye glasses, always messy hair, and always at least 3 pimples featured prominently on my face."

On the Facebook group, one of the ladies said she remembered me as being popular and cool, and friendly to everyone. Again...I think she has me mixed up with someone else. I was friendly enough...when I wasn't being the quiet shy girl. But popular? No...not popular. And cool? Well, her definition and my definition of the word differ. lol

I tend to agree with this post. I think you got it or you don’t.

Cool is the degree to which you don't seek the approval of others or care about their inevitable disapproval, meanwhile still respecting them. So respecting yourself and others and expecting nothing for it.

Johnny Carson was cool. And while most of us could not hope to be as cool as him, we could have dressed like him, as he had his own clothing line.

Cool people know the difference between valid criticism and playground taunts, and don't allow playground taunts to bother them.

Anyone can dress cool, act cool, or talk cool. Really cool people live in the future. About two or three minutes ahead of everyone else. That's why they can stay cool no matter what. Cool people have confidence.

Well in the 80s it was hip to be square!

Cool changes with the times.

Earlier than that. 1940's or 1950's. Maybe earlier.
