The "snow" event tonight will likely be insignificant. But the non-local forecasters are saying .5" of ice tomorrow and Wednesday, and 3"+ of snow. Some models have us in the 6-9" snow range and at least .25" of ice.

You cant trust WRAL, etc.

WCPSS said they won't make any calls on closures or early release/delayed start until tomorrow morning.

Not looking forward to cold AND power outages, but I heard one of the problems with the last major ice storm was that the weather stayed cold for a couple of weeks and every time a line was repaired it would go down again. It's supposed to be 45* on Friday and warming up from there.

I think there were just massive outages and it took a long time to get them all repaired. There might have been some transformer blowouts from extra load on the system as some neighborhood lines came up, but not all transformers were repaired? What I remember was a bad storm and then it did stay cold, but there was no more precip. My oldest was not quite 2 at the time and we had a relative in the area in a hotel room for something unrelated so we took the little one and crashed there.

Johnston County schools closed after all. First they were going to dismiss at 11 am, (for the high schools, other times for the middle and elementary) Just as I was making My kiddie breakfast, got the closing call. It is an optional day for staff. From what I last read, the worst of it isn't supposed to come till much later, Wed even. So I wonder if they will close Wed or even Thursday. I guess all I can do is wait it out.

Dismissing at 11 seems pointless. I wouldn't even bother taking mine in for 1:45 minutes. I have to assume that Johnston County does not start nearly as late as the Wake Elementary schools. Mine start at 9:15!

I expected a 2 hr delay today. There's ice out there this morning, not much, but it only takes one little patch....

Anybody see any precip yet? I saw that Johnston Co closed schools. I have friends in SE NC and they are reporting snow in Sampson Co and Cumberland so I guess maybe Johnston Co is anticipating some in the southern part of the county? Anything in Wake? I'm in Orange and I don't think we're supposed to see anything until later tonight, but I just looked at the radar and it looks like it's coming closer to Wake now. Y'all getting anything?

I'm seeing just a handful of flurries here in central Cary...have to stare really hard to even notice them floating around.

Light snow over here in Holly Springs. Been going on for at least 30 minutes. Sticking on the deck.
