Does anyone remember the French bakery that used to be in Raleigh at the corner of Creedmoor and Millbrook roads? Gosh, it's probably been 10 years since it closed. From what I remember, it was only opened for a year or two.
It has been about 10 years.
It was wonderful, and the owner had a great story, which I forget....
I live in Chicago now and I have trouble finding pastries as good as the ones from the little place in Raleigh 10 years ago. They tasted just like the ones from a little shop in France.
I used to go in there and speak French with the owner.
Twas a sad day when I walked up to the store front and saw an eviction notice. The business probably would have been more successful in a place like North Hills.

I think you're talking about Gourmandises de France, which was owned by Denis and Isabel Blanco. IIRC the Blancos had to close in part because their son developed cancer and they had to treat him full time. They sold the business to another French ex-pat who renamed it Plaisirs de France, but it just wasn't the same and I think he was open a very short amount of time before he shuttered the business. The Blancos still live in the area last I heard but I don't know if they plan on reopening a business any time soon. They did a bake sale out of their front yard in Wake Forest about five years ago after their son's cancer returned but I don't know what happened after that.
