I know - I know. Chinese buffets are not the place to go for top quality food - and I agree. However, have a visitor from another country, and he is all gung-ho about going to one. I tried my best to talk him out of it - but it clearly didnt work, since I am on this forum asking for recommendations ( the hope is to make it less painful for me). So - now that you have the history - please help me figure out where to take him.

In Cary, Hibatchi something-something on Shannon Oaks is decent (accross from Trader Joes). The one up the road, on the same side of Kildaire as TJ's is Nasty.
Obviously, go when it's busy. Food turns over faster....
In my observation most Chinese buffets are in dimly lighted areas of the restaurant. And probably for a good reason. Buffets only work if you have "live' customers to eat while hot and freshly prepared.
For us we love Peking Garden in Raleigh. No buffet.
I admit that sometimes I like a good Chinese buffet too. I run over to China Buffet in Durham a lot - just off 15/501 - 3720 Mayfair St, Durham, NC 27707.
They seem to have a flood of Google reviews in the past month so I'm not sure they're legit - but I've gone there a lot and it's clean and tasty.
