Doesn't stop young people from looking like they are homeless and getting rid of their car vs. Karen who drives around a Infiniti SUV with a Coach bag just as a status symbol like in the Triangle. Anyone who has been to both cities can tell which one is more about status, and it ain't Asheville.
If you want a good base line between who is more bougie start a discussion about public transit in Asheville then do the same in Raleigh. One of those place will be aghast at the concept of sharing transit with "undesirables" and call it a "boondoggle" and then say "it doesn't make sense". Pretty good measurement of who is more bougie.
Poor thing... if she really thinks Coach and Infiniti are status symbols...
It is a sort of "Karen" thing to think, though.

In addition to Raleigh being compared to Dubai in terms of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars (sort of), I would point out that even though Raleigh doesn't have a lot of the flashy well-known "mall type" jewelry stores that you would see in larger markets, there are a several smaller, boutique type places that you could spend any amount of money that your heart desires, certainly in the six to seven figures for custom pieces. As another poster mentioned, the people that live that lifestyle want discretion and privacy. Or, they go to NYC to shop.
With the mega-mall concept fading on a national level, more of these will pop up as the market gets larger.
Oh, absolutely. You can drop a lot of cash on custom pieces and unique jewels here in the Triangle.

lol I must pretty poor because I've always thought that the high end Japanese luxury vehicles were status symbols (at least they are to me). Infiniti, Acura, and Lexus don't even exist in Japan.

I am out of touch with the Karen's of the world.
Well, thing is... they ARE in some places.
Just not really here in the center of the Triangle. Further out in the more rural areas? ABSOLUTELY.
