My turn? Republicans do some things better than we do, and vice versa. I wouldn't wish away either.

Exactly that. The GOP's tendencies to try to create a theocracy and to employ other draconian measures is abhorrent, but you are right. But it is but one cause of our problems. Blaming those problems solely on the GOP trying to act more like the Taliban does not solve problems.

I think you finally are getting it. (And if you think I'm being sarcastic, look at some of the legislation that the NCGA is proposing. Bans on womans reproductive rights and setting the stage for LGBTQ to become illegal and punishable are just two examples. The analogy is fitting, but it's EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Pointing that out without pointing out other issues is not going to solve anything.)

And to be fair, this is another example of what I'm saying. I agree it's true, but saying that without acknowledging that there are many more factors is either naive or dishonest. I vehemently agree that it's true, and a MAJOR factor, but if you took away the GOP the problem would not go away. It might even get worse (as much as I hate to type that, it's probably more true that what you and I responded to.)

Exactly.

And to other issues, I'm happy to liken AOC to a left wing loony. Here's the difference...many (most) democrats will agree with that assessment. And many (most) Repubs won't agree that Trump, Jordan, DeSantis, MTG, Bobert, Berger, Moore, etc., etc., etc. are right wing loonys. And more importantly, the right wing loonys are in charge of NC and very close to being in charge nationally, as they have been recently. They constitute a more clear and present danger to our democracy, by virtue of their words AND actions.

The loony dems are truly on the sidelines, so who cares. They complained loudly about being shut out by Biden. Contrast that with Trump's embrace and active recruitment of the loony right. My concern is with the present danger, not the hypothetical danger.

This discussion went, sadly, exactly where I thought it would. Republicans are the "Taliban", and Democrats are "The Borg". Lots of name-calling of members of the other political party whose views you don't support. I guess this is the place where democracy comes to die.

I like how you engage in name calling and then cast shade on name calling. Truly you are a god among men. And by men I mean man kind, all of humanity and it's 43 genders and orientations.

And this comment, which I agree with, brings us full circle to what this was about from the get-go.

They got that power by gerrymandering. To review: Yes, both sides do it, but to different degrees by exponential factors.

Democracy IS in jeopardy, who's fault it is swings like the pendulum that is bipartisan politics. Right now, and for a few decades now, it's been more at the hands of the GOP.

To get back to blaming BOTH sides: Look at the debt ceiling crisis. Does anyone (ANYONE?) disagree that both parties are posturing, not to solve the problem, but to leverage as much power as possible to hold the other party accountable for a problem that would not exist if they both came to the table in good faith?

Reps are all willing to negotiate as long as Dems are willing to do exactly, and only exactly as the R's wish, and
D's are not willing to negotiate, unless the Reps do exactly, and only exactly as the D's wish.

It's all about scoring points for the party, not about solving problems for the country. (yes, that is a national issue, but it is emblematic of the local issues we have here in the city and state levels.)

You're statement is SUCH BS, and I'm a gay man. Settle down and stop crying "Wolf." You're embarrassing yourself. It's pathetic and sad.
LGBTQ will not "become illegal" or "Punishable" here or anywhere else in the US. LOL
