I don't know if I'd use the word ugly. Gawdy though, like a gold tooth or big gold chain that a 90's rapper would wear. Not my style at all.

Not all original houses are "crap shacks."
My immediate impression was "ugh!" But I take it back. The color quality of the photo is extremely garish, and that is part of the problem....makes the whole think look like a cheap movie set. With the colors in the photo toned down to a realistic level it looks much better.

And in my estimation the treatment of the very front of the property is an atrocity...for one thing those squat pillars are a major mistake. Re-do this area and I think the place would look acceptable and even appealing.

But, hey, it's a bargain at $3.2M

We have the same issue in our neighborhood.
The old timers are happy that the Latino gangs no longer rule, but they hate the new modern houses like mine.
I think your home is conservative and attractive.

I don't see the difference between them calling new houses monstrosities and you calling older homes crap shacks.

I've seen lots of new houses that I like. The one in the 1st post isn't one of them. High class tacky.

I think in many cases it is envy.

It has a lot of cub appeal but I wouldn't want to live there. I'll take the crap shack if it's an unloved Victorian built around the turn of the century.

Sure it's an ostentatious look, but might be very appealing to many of the buyers for that area (nouveau riche Mainland Chinese) which is why the builders would do that. They know their customers.
