I was reading a thread concerning how men behave in certain areas. I was wondering, what percentage of women really like when they get whistled at by men.

I personally would never do it because I think it is disrespectful, but that is my personal opinion.

I personally don't like cat calls, especially when they're done by men who hang in packs; like on some scaffolding or hanging out their car window while cruising.

This sort of behavior becomes more prevalent when there's a bunch of guys together who are acting this way to impress their male friends as opposed to the woman they're supposedly trying to attract. It's actually very childish behavior and sometimes it becomes so forceful that it scares many women and I've seen this happen first hand. For whatever reason groups of men will often shout offensive and incredibly stupid remarks to any woman who happens to be nearby. When I worked in downtown Seattle and rode the bus to work I used to see this sort of thing all the time and I thought it was disgusting. This has nothing to do with romantic feelings or guys telling you that you're cute, it's all about a group of young men who think it's cool to scare women and anyone else who happens to be around.

The OP's question relates to whistling not lewd comments or gestures.

I have never, and will never, whistle at a woman I don't know. I'll give compliments to ladies around the office...and of course an SO would get things....but I would think I'm some sort of ET if I started doing this.

I hate being catcalled. I walk my dog every morning at six a.m., literally roll out of bed with bedhead, throw on something that covers me, and spend forty-five minutes walking the dog around town. The past three mornings, there have been construction crews out at 6 a.m. pouring concrete for curb cuts all around our usual route. EVERY morning, I have been catcalled, and I guarantee that I am NOT looking fine just having rolled out of bed.

It's aggressive, uncomfortable, rude, can be construed as threatening, and overall, it pisses me off.
