What's shortsighted about it? Why would I enter into a contract unless I'm directly benefiting from it financially?

Let's say you have two couples. One buys a house together, and the other rents the house next door. Which couple is more likely to spend their own time and money to keep the house up to date and in good repair? Which couple is more likely to let the place run down and then simply move somewhere new?

As I have already stated, for those lacking faith and understanding of the value of marriage, no explanation or "point" to it will suffice.

You don't "get" it, and that's okay - just don't get married, problem solved!

I "get it" alright; I just don't want any parts of it unless you can show me how I can benefit financial from entering into a marriage contract.

No, you don't "get" it or you wouldn't think marriage is all about "benefiting" you financially.

Marriage is about a WHOLE lot more than money

Well said, good example

Some won't like it, and some just won't understand it - but the homeowners among us sure will!

When you're married, it's a commitment. You can't just blithely walk away after an argument or tiff. It's far harder to divorce and split up assets than it it to just have a disagreement, drive away and never come back. That is just one thing, there are countless others.

Problem solved. Don't marry. It's really not for everyone.
