People like to date within their general numerical attractiveness level. Water seeks its own level. I answered NO.
I don't buy the "looks don't matter" nonsense. They do matter, as does social class, money and status. Contrary to what some of the femz here will say, I'm not whining about it. I stopped caring long ago and now just sit back and laugh at the stupidity of it all = humanity.

Any person who cares about people in general and feel that a persons personality, how they treat you, as well as others is far more important than looks ever could be.

Looks aren't the most important thing in the world, but who is to judge what one person feels is attractive as compared to another?

Maybe the wonderful personality is what attracts some people....

Could be you need to take a peek at whats on the inside before you go judging people on what you think they are seeing on the outside....

Ditto my emoticon using friend.

Sit back and laugh. Sometimes that's all you can do!

They have asked this very question of experts on talk shows and it is found in pop psych books you scan but not necessarily purchase.

Q: Should you be in a relationship with, or married to, someone whose personality is very compatible with yours but who you are not physically attracted to?
A: NO.

Awesome personality makes average look better. It's not gonna make three heads disappear, but somebody who is charismatic, hilarious, brilliant, etc. is automatically perceived as more attractive in most cases than someone whose looks are at the same level but is dull, no sense of humor, not that smart, etc. What makes someone attractive is a fairly complex cocktail, and perception of looks can improve according to the whole package.

It's foolish to say looks don't matter, but average, middle of the road physical appearance can be GREATLY boosted (one way or another) by other criteria. It's like a blank slate that can go either way.

Good and balanced post. Average looks are really no big deal. I tend to think that if you're a 5 or even a 4, you at least have something to work with and can improve your looks by exercising regularly, dressing well and having confidence.

Below 4, the above ceases to apply. It's a shame, but that's the way it is. People can be cruel. Those who are born afflicted and disadvantage should at least be allowed the dignity of solace or even euthanasia in severe cases. We do the same for animals.
