Seriously though -- do you think the rise of the "cult of celebrity" has displaced religion to a certain extent in our culture?

Idk about displaced..but Id sure say that "cult" sure has alot of people addicted to it..between Paris, the Olsens twins, jessica..brittney..it never ends on the media watch

I don't see a real difference between being a fan and 'worshipping' an idol (emotional investment).
The same for sport-fans (emotional investment + good luck rituals & superstition by the athletes).
Or gambling (worshipping lady luck).
Or doing hard-drugs (doing anything to get high).
