Instead of just punishing those who do not follow the 'straight tenet', how about the church deny membership and participation in the sacraments to every person who has ever violated any one of the Ten Commandments.
Gay marriage is like training wheels for fish. You can do it - but WHY?
Since time immemorial, marriage was a union of two people for the benefit of their progeny. . . as in the merger of the property rights of both parents, that passed to the next generation.
(Illegitimate children can inherit from their mothers, not their fathers)
Non-reproducing unions don't gain any benefit from marriage.
EXCEPT under socialism, as in seeking spousal benefits.
I think we should discuss some of the more thorny religious issues even though they are somewhat controversial.
In one of the local groups in my area which discuss religious issues, they have been discussing this topic and whether God is inclusive of all or not.
Some people believe that they want their relationship to be recognised and approved by the Church but many in the Church feel that the term 'Marriage' has a specific meaning of 'Union between a man and a woman'. This means that other terms have to be found by the Church and the word 'Marriage' is not to be used in the ceremony. Or..else the relationship is 'blessed' and not officially recognised as 'Marriage', as is that of a man to a woman.
From the Church's point of view they find it politically difficult to come down on any side of the fence and so they are probably going to fudge it yet again. Either way, they will attract criticism from the congregation, particularly the older and more traditional people.
I understand that there are some Churches which have decided to allow this marriage of same-sex couples, but on an individual level, how does everyone feel about this?
The bigger question is, why do the same sex couple need a marriage ceremony in a CHURCH?
You have courts - go there and get it done.
If you are doing something that against a religious faith then why the F shove yourself in the heart of the faith?
It’s like being an adult and wanting to take a poop on the kitchen floor rather than in the restroom.

Marriage conveys many secular privileges, benefits, and rights that are NOT trivial so that explains WHY. There is no explanation for wanting the addition of a church blessing in a church that does NOT think God approves. Find one that does!
No one makes a church marry a same sex couple if the church doesn't want to. It's no different than an Orthodox rabbi can't be made to marry a Jewish person and a non-Jew.
A gay couple needs a marriage in church in the same way a straight couple needs a marriage in church. It shows the support of and recognition by the community of faith to which they belong.
