One interesting thing about nearly all prophets - regardless of culture - is that they all have a big, fat political agenda.

Lao Tzu wrote a book, left it with a guy at the gate, and bounced on his riding yack* for parts unknown. Jesus spoke and taught, but didn't force himself on anyone and said "F politics, focus instead on GOD". Buddha never gave a rat's rump about politics or kingdoms...he actually gave all that up to meditate.

Only a few prophets wanted anything politically actually.

You be surprised at all the alleged predictions that have been made in Catholicism. One interesting one is the coming three days of darkness.

Yes, I think that prophecy is indeed going on as much as it ever did. Let's face it, if Caiaphas saying that Jesus should be topped before he annoys the Romans is really Prophecying about the rise of the church, then prophecy is wide open.

A prophet is not necessarily one who speaks of the future or recites gibberish. The word basically means someone who has a vision of how the world should work (environment, civil rights, etc) and spreads it to others.

Exactly. Alan Watts was called a Bodhisattva by some...and indeed, he was a prophet for our time.

We forgive you. In fact I am with Shirina here. There is a big, fat, political agenda. The OT prophets were using successes to bolster the authority of YHWH - and using the defeats to do the same.

Jesus did not speak or teach as in the gospels. That is an invention of Greek Christians determined to hi- jack God worship from Judaism.

Buddha too - or his people, the Kshatrya caste - had an agenda: to hi - jack the right to make merit from the Brahmin caste.

Lao Tzu...well, he might not have given a ratbut for politics (though a need to break free of the structured social rites and customs of China comes close). But Confucius and Mengtse, they had political agendas all right.

I reasonably assume if god revealed himself to a new prophet tomorrow, this person would be considered a raving nut-job and probably mentally ill, even by the most devout of believers.

So why doesn't god reveal himself anymore?
God does reveal Himself today. Its called the KJV Bible, the Lords preserved word. God has chosen the method to know Him in the Church age to be through prayer and reading of your KJV Bible. If you are saved, then you already know God personally because Christianity requires no religious works as its a personal relationship with the Father through the Lord Jesus Christ.

That pretty much explains it. free interpretation based on unquestioning acceptance of whatever book of myth one prefers, is more or less modern -day prophecy because they all have the idea that they are getting their wisdom from God.

This explains why mere lockdown evidence makes no impression, it is impossible to admit they are EVER wrong. since that would trash their illusions of inspiration, and it explains why bald faith statements like the preceding are somehow considered to be a worthwhile and meaningful post.

There doesn't seem to be any reason or logic found in people after God starts talking to them. They begin to make up anything at all and if it contradicts the word of God, that's ok, God has informed them that he was wrong to begin with.

It's like quoting Jesus on the law saying,'' Whoever keeps the laws of Moses, and teaches others to keep it will be the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.''

The majority of Christianity will seek to prove Jesus was wrong in this saying.

Perhaps he was The point is that arguing about scripture is fine, so long as the kiddies don't fight. What is wrong is ...Propheticality syndrome.. (TM) where the person is worshipping, communing with and talking to the voice in his (or her) head which is God. I wonder whether the god in ladies' head really is 'She'? So the voice in their head tells them things and they are sure they get all this from God.

Even if they suddenly change their mind about Ooohhh let's say ER turning to UR ..he still thinks he (or she ) is getting it all from God. A god whose views change to coincide exactly with his (or hers).

We see this prophecy here and in end of world claims as well as in the pulpit. It is just the same as Paul's chop -logic, the ranting of Jeremiah...and most of the rest of the book..

There may be prophets today but perhaps they broadcast on a frequency few can receive or perhaps in a language few understand. The message may come in via the too-low-to-hear channel that elephants use to communicate across the miles. Or maybe in the ululation of whales.

Perhaps it's in the sound of leaves rustling in a breeze. Or maybe it's silent. Maybe the message is in the eyes of the street person with his hand out.

Or maybe if all followed the age-old advice of Bill & Ted - Be excellent to each other - we'd need no more prophets.
