Any other retired folks struggle with sleeping and thus don't enjoy their life?
As my husband would say "you are not working hard enough". DO SOMETHING! Get out and wear yourself out. I guarantee you will sleep.

I've got some yard work that needs doing if you are interested.

An allergist told me, minimum two weeks. After one week you still have traces of the suspected substance in your system and may very well still be reacting to it.

The sleep issue for most people is the bluelight we are saturated with in the evening prior to bedtime. I had my doubts but when after reading about this issue I adopted a no bluelight policy at night and began to sleep like a rock. Give it a try, no pills to take, no side effects, and no outrageous costs.

Am wondering if the OP can sleep yet. I hate it when people don't come back and update .

I have absolutely no problems falling to sleep.....its the 3 a.m. wake ups and inability to return to sleep. I do go to bed early......cant remember sleeping more than 6 hrs....they say that not healthy. Feel that although I'm normal weight, sleep apnea might be the culprit.

Good nutrition and exercise is a great tonic.

OH also I'm 55. Age might play a part. I won't be retired until 62.
Zzzzquil is just overpriced diphenhydramine (Benadryl). Don't fall for the advertising hype. Buy generic Benadryl at Costco. Hundreds of tablets for the price of about 30 Zzzzquils. I always read the active ingredients on any OTC pill and find the cheaper generic version.

I've had success with a self-hypnosis routine I learned, if that doesn't work I resort to 2 generic Benadryl (equals 50 mg).

Took lots of benadryl over the yrs during working years....concerned about long term effects.....stopped that about two yrs ago. Concerned about dementia type issues developing down the road. Probably an unfounded concern

I have the same problem. I do wear a CPAP but when I wake up at 3am it is annoying so I usually take it off.

I've found getting up and going to the couch helps me fall back asleep. Sure wish I could get a solid 7 hours like the old days.

One thing that helps is most mobile devices now have a "night shift" setting that will soften the blue light.

How much time are you now spending in your home vs. when you worked? I say this because you might have an air quality issue in your house.

ETA: I see this is an old problem, however, answer still applies. If you suddenly start having headaches that prevent you from sleeping after retiring look at air quality in your home.
