It's not possible to find the right state with internet alone, but it's very easy to eliminate states. Look at the demographics, particularly the politics of the state as a whole. Big cities generally control the states effectively disenfranchising small town and rural residents. Big city people determine what your tax bill is. I picked a state where there are no cities with even a tenth of state population. I'm very happy that I did as I fled Colorado when Denver and environs destroyed my home. So few people seem to care about politics in picking a retirement location, but it's critical.
It's easy to eliminate states or parts of states based on weather. I refuse to live anyplace that experiences hot humid weather. That eliminates everything east of the hundredth meridian for me.
Determine what else may be intolerable for yourself. It saves a great deal of time.
