I lived well inland, but we had "Blackout drills" often, had dark curtains also. Ration books for everything. If you went to a movie, midway thru, they turned on the lights and sold war stamps and savings bonds. I lived 30 miles or so north of Ft. Benning , Ga. and once I saw a convoy of tanks rumble up the road in front of our house. Flights of military fighter planes came over fairly often. Fun times.
Thanks for sharing that. Mom lived in NJ about 30 miles inland (still does, about half a mile from where she was born.) There was a plant that built military planes about ten miles away. I read about how they covered it with huge black tarps to make it invisible from the air.
I'll be 62 in 35 more days. I'm counting down the days until I'm eligible for social security, but I'll probably wait to collect it. I've been retired for a little over 3 years now. Inner child is still very much in control. I don't feel like I'm almost 62. What do you do when your mind and body is out of sync? I'll feed the inner child. She's more fun. MMMM brownies for breakfast.
62. I started posting here 9 years ago, shortly before I retired. And by retired, I mean retired. I didn't retire from one entity to go work at another. I didn't go from full-time work to part-time work. I walked out of my office on March 3, 2010, and I have not been gainfully employed since.
Since that time, I have bought 3 residences, 5 cars, traveled to 6 continents, and survived (so far) 2 cancers, a pulmonary embolism, and a pericardial tamponade. It's been an interesting first decade of retirement so far.
If our 80s gang is healthy and online, why not a 90s gang? Especially if they're somewhat isolated, and Internet-savvy. 90 is the new, what, 70?
I wish I had added 90 but I don't seem to be able to edit it to add it.
