I used to love going to Arizona, even during the summer. We usually had some project going on at one of the military bases.

A couple of years ago - much older of course - took a trip to Phoenix with a couple of cousins. This was in early May. We left Texas wearing light sweaters. Got to Arizona and it was HOT!!!!! I though no way am I ever coming back here. Texas heat was bad enough.

Someone agrees with me!

Someone finally agrees with me.

I hate the desert. AZ, TX, and NM-visited them all. Not for me thanks.

If you are an active person, what I don't like about hot climes is constantly going from roasting gates of hell outside to ice cold air conditioning inside. I could not stand that day after day. Cannot sleep in the cold. Seems silly to have to wear a sweater inside or bring a sweater when you go out to deal with the AC. Places like Florida and Louisiana are uncomfortably steamy humid too-for long stretches.

I much prefer a 4 season climate like the mid Atlantic states! Variety and you get to wear different clothes!

That's a myth. It rarely gets above 120 degrees F.

Have you been in Phoenix in the Summer? I sounds like you don't even have a hint or certainly no direct experience. When I lived in Phoenix, June was my favorite month. The weather is beautiful and consistent. Temperatures averaged a moderate 100 or maybe a few degrees warmer. Humidity in all of June is very low and dry!!!! I just checked the weather, temps are supposed to go to about 106 with humidity in the 10% range or less.

Wait until the first or second week of July!! The monsoons move in and the temps increase. You can expect temps to be over 110, maybe even over 115. Humidity is going to be in the 70% range. That doesn't sound like much in other parts of the country but wait until you feel what that means at 113 degrees.

Luckily my apartment in Tucson is ground floor, windows facing mostly towards the north. I only need to turn on AC from about 4 to 8 or 9 pm, even today when the afternoon temp was 108F/42C.

I will stay in Tucson till September 1, then drive to Houston in order to drop off my car for shipment to Germany. I'll take a nonstop flight Houston to Frankfurt and rent a car to drive to my apartment in Halle (near Leipzig). Not sure if I have to quarantine when I arrive. My own car will arrive in Bremerhaven sometime in October. I'm going to give up the idea of hopping back and forth across the Atlantic each year, and will stay in Germany for 2-3 years instead. Plenty of stuff for me to do in Germany and other places in Europe.
I envy you, that sounds wonderful!
