Ask me how I know.

I know!!

When I was married we had an above ground pool which always needed money for chemicals, etc. But I did like it very much.

I don't think it's foolish. Almost everyone has impossible dreams.

I've never won the lottery even though I've been trying hard for 30 years now.

It's not foolish IMHO. Just choose a game with good odds. I see NY has some scratchers that pay out over a million with odds a lot better than powerball or megamillions. Really weird that NY Lotto has worse odds than the big jackpots. And don't spend more on tickets than you can afford to lose.

For me, just dreaming about what I'd do with all that money is enough entertainment to make it worth spending 10 or 15 bucks a week.

It is absolutely foolish. For every dollar you spend on a lottery ticket, you'll probably be returned 15 to 30 cents long term.

If you get to Arizona, you can swim in our outdoor pool. Got a hot tub, too. October is the best time to visit.

I have to confess that when I was a teen some adult relatives were talking about a new proposed state lottery and one of them looked at me and said "It's the stupid people tax!". That always stuck with me and so I never played them.

Not until many years later when working in an office environment & the jackpots were at record levels every 2-3 years and there would then be an office pool that I would throw $5 in & forget about. But about 30 years ago, at one of those huge multi-state record powerball jackpots I finally bought $10 or $20 worth and ending up winning $120!

I've never bought another lotto ticket again, I figure I came out ahead.

I'll buy a ticket every 5 years or so. I won $40 in the 90s. Got home and discovered my daughter was ill. The $40 paid for the co-pays for the Dr and medications. Easy come, easy go.

There is an App called Swimply where you can rent a pool from a private homeowner for an hour, an afternoon or the whole day.

I was thinking if you're on Facebook or something, put out a call to people your age who might live in places with a pool. You might make some new friends.
Professional gamblers don't play the lottery because the odds, they say, are terrible. I still buy a ticket a few times a year and give scratch-offs for office gifts. Everyone seems to like getting them. I know no one who has ever won.

I'm 80, single for many years, live alone in income based apartment.

I've always wanted a swimming pool. I love to swim, have used the area lakes (central NY state), but they are frequently closed for one reason or another. Where I live does not have a pool.

I knew a woman a long time ago who lived in a complex that had a very nice pool, she invited me once for a swim and it felt like heaven. However, she paid high rent where she lived, something I can't do.

So have been mulling over what options that are open to me and I thought playing the lottery could be an opportunity to win enough so I could move to an apartment complex that had a pool.

So what do you think? Good idea or just foolish thinking?
The odds are against you. If you want to play, set aside $100 and play the same $2 bet each week for a year, just for the fun of it. Better to find some other way of enjoying a pool. BTW, there are "salt" systems for pools that do not have the chlorine smell.
