My wife & I anticipate a job offer next week for a position in Clearfield. We'd likely be living in the Ogden area and we just performed a search on National Sex Offender Registry of sex offenders and Ogden is PACKED!

I have two very young daughters (under 2) and both have very bright red hair and not to brag, but they draw significant attention because of their bright red (pretty) hair.

What's the "real" story about sex offenders (especially CHILD ) in the Ogden/Clearfield/Layton areas?? I'd like to assume this is a result of some crazy UT laws but do not want to be that naive either.

Thanks all,

Our laws aren't different than other states, to my knowledge. Don't know about Ogden. What do you consider "packed?"

Well, on the website I just searched the city and got 555 offenders (of all types), on city data the pop of Ogden is 82,702 which means that .67% of the population has an active sex offense. [pretty high compared to other states/cities]...

Here is the link to the official UT sex offender site. You need an address though.
Utah Department of Corrections--SONAR — Sex Offender Notification and Registration (http://corrections.utah.gov/asp-bin/sonar.asp - broken link)

Don't know how accurate that other site is, that seems awfully high!

Watch the math on the ratios. Use only the official State site to get the accurate number of offenders THEN DO YOUR OWN ANALYSIS.

The ratio thing....X: offender can be skewed depending on the coding of the site, and the zip codes they use. Especially if there is a city and MSA surrounding area:

Inner city Ogden is a low income area. I'm conjecturing here. However, if you are recently released from prison or jail, chances are you down and out and can't afford much in the way of housing. Possibly they are all grouped here because its one of few places they can afford housing?

It's ok you don't have to live in Ogden (or do you?). Check out the Layton, Fruit Heights, Farmington, South Weber, West Haven, Pleasent View areas, Roy, Clinton, Syracuse areas all right by Clearfield.
