The Texas State Department of Transportation is currently studying the feasibility of an Oklahoma-to-Texas high-speed rail line. Expanding the study to evaluate a San Antonio-to-Monterrey line would cost an additional $400,000, the state's transportation commissioner said. And nothing can move forward until the study is complete.

I'd love to see one from here to New Orleans Vegas LA New York etc...I really have no desire to see any part of Mexico not yet anyways

This is planned as part of the NAFTA corridor so will pretty much run parallel to I-35. There is more business and profit to be made than simply running tourists to Vegas or NYC.

Of course if we had high speed rail linking us to the west and east then new business would develop naturally but it seems they want to augment an already booming and congested corridor.

We need a north and south route more than any other.

I think a challenge with Vegas, LA, NYC is the cost of bulding high speed rails system (we are talking billions and billions). Even from a user perspective, flying would be much faster and likely cheaper.

A high speed train to the border (Mexico would build the other half) would be a much more modest investment (relatively speaking, of course) as it's only 180 miles or so. Also, there is a pretty big infux of money into San Antonio from Mexican shoppers and visitors. There is potentially an additional benefit if the rails are also used to transport goods, and may even make our highways less congested with 18-weelers.

And please, don't make this about illegal aliens, because they would not be the ones using this. It would be mostly legal tourists and shoppers.

maybe with a high speed rail, it would make it safer for me as an American to go into Mexico, act like a jerk in their stores, trash their stores, and think I own the place and all should bow down to me.

I agree. Its like any project that people like as long as its on the federal taxpayer to pay for .If its such a great idea then private sector or locals will be willing to invest in it. Its called a pork project since they are not.
