Default Casa Rio

We ended up at Casa Rio. We decided to go there because we were able to get a table on the Riverwalk and the reviews were pretty good. My wife had a plate with a taco, enchilada, carne guisada, rice and beans. She thought it was pretty good. I chose the Grilled chicken breast, with charro beans and rice. Mine was not so good. Chicken breast was dry and bland. Also, the corn tortillas are "off the shelf'" and therefore not so good. Margaritas were very good! Chips were good and salsa too mild for my taste.

Casa Rio? Glad I didn't throw my two cents into this thread. Several good suggestions were made, you might keep them in mind for your 40th anniversary!

Or you could just go RIGHT down the road to a place like Feast or Foccacia in Southtown. Only a couple minute drive then you can head back to the river. It's honestly close enough to walk. Maybe a nice 10-15 minute, safe, walk.

If you want to stay in Southtown you could hang at The Friendly Spot, or head back to the river and go to The Esquire Bar.

There's also the Pearl Brewery with a TON of fabulous dining options like Arcade Midtown, Cured, etc

If you're going to do Southtown, I'd personally suggest forgetting the loud, brash atmosphere of Feast and enjoy a true foodie's menu at Bliss. The dining room and the menu are top notch.

Foccacia has turned to dreck. Overpriced, bland Italian food with an owner who takes to yelling at his staff and customers in a very public way. I'd say buyer beware on that.

I'd also highly recommend Baracca at Blue Star Arts Complex. Spanish tapas, great wine list and a staff that truly makes you feel like you're at home.

EDIT: Drat. Saw that you went to Casa Rio... Boo.

Sorry you seem disappointed in our dining choice, but then I was not trying to please you.

Hey, to each their own! I hope you enjoy Casa Rio. It does have a great atmosphere to eat on the Riverwalk. Not my personal choice, but I always enjoy bringing out of town clients there.

To the OP: intially, I have to admit in my mind, I went, "Casa Rio for an anniversary?!" ...but you know what? I really, really like their enchiladas and especially their flautas. And I think, if my hubby thought I'd enjoy those for my anniversary, then I'd just love him even more than I do now, because he thought of me first and was trying to make me happy.

You know where we are actually going for our anniversary in just a couple of weeks? The Melting Pot. I can see the collective eyes rolling here, but it's good fun, and it's kind of a sentimental place for us. It's not Michelin/Zagat rated, and it's a chain, two things which tends to bring out the worst in C-Ders. So, just like jameshardin said above, to each their own, and I hope your anniversary was great!
