Yup they sure did, might be the same location you went too. It was in Garden Grove which is less that 8miles from disneyland. They even had a chorizo pizza in the buffet.

Coney Island was the best hangout for St. Mary's School Panthers. Back in the late 60's hot dogs and bottled sodas were 15 cents each. The juke box would give you 3 songs for a Quarter.

Having attended St. Mary's School, there was no turnover in employees at the Coney. All the employees knew the students on a first name basis.

If you were an altarboy at St. Mary's and you served the 8AM daily student Mass that had a funeral, you could sneak over to the Coney and spend your tip that the funeral directors would give, then off to school.

Before Friday night Boy Scout meetings held in the basement of St. Mary's Church many of us would meet at the Coney Island.

Too bad Coney Island is gone.

I also remember a short lived hot dog place called "Poor Pierre's," located in back of Walgreens on College street.

I attended the first of the movies on saturday morning when our parents came downtown to paid bills. I remember the offer from Pesi was good at the TEXAS theater. My friends and I all wore our cap pistols because of the Lash LaRue serial followed by a feature movie. Well someone began shooting at the bad guys on the screen, a theater full of armed kids filled the theater up with smoke by the end of the serial. Needless to say, that episode unarmed us from our cap pistols. Funny, there seemed to be a shortage of bottle caps that summer.

I remember Cooter Brown's, but before Cooters, the Archaeologists from UTSA opened up the Far Out Saloon. The guy didn't open until 6 pm but so many of us diggers wanted a bar. We left a note for Pinkie the bartender that we would return the following day at 2 pm. Pinkie never regretted opening that early as 10-15 of us were there everyday. He got rid of his only entertainment center, a washer toss board, and bought a pool table. Great parties and good friends.

When did Cooter Brown's close? Is the building still there? Also does anybody remember Der Weinershizel? I think there used to be one on Fredericksburg.

I remember that..weren't they also in North Star Mall years ago before all the major renovations?

I believe it was..my memory is cloudy on the exact area but I remember eating there and being fascinated by all the German products they sold also.
