Hey you Playland Park lobbers... there is a new exclusive book out about Playland Park... lots of original black and white pictures plus color too... written by the guy that inherited Playland Park from the original owner. This guy lived and breathed Playland Park. I don't recall anyone mentioning the Tee Pee Steak Restaurant on Austin Hwy.Delicious humungous juicy steaks with flacky dainty homemade buttermilk biscuits for sopping. There were three tee pees on the grounds (not original).

Someone at work mentioned there was a steak/ bar type place at Callaghan and I-10 (Penn Food shopping center). Anyone recall the name?

It is amazing how good steak places like the Tee Pee or Sizzler will close down and absolutely awful places like Little Red Barn are still open. I don't mean to offend anyone and in America I am entitled to my opinion. But Little Red Barn is a place that should be GBNF in SA! The food it terrible, the concept is out dated, and worst of all...are the ridiculous waitress costumes on those senior citizens. Those outfits would make a hooters girl look bad. (sorry I had to vent).

I remember! "The Day the Earth Stood Still"... am I right? That movie scared the heck out of me when I was a kid but I loved it. I have another vague memory of another scarry alien type movie where there were alot of these weird looking aliens (kinda looked like mummies) running through some long dark underground type tunnel... does anybody remember that one or was that from the same above mentioned movie?

Big John's was located near where Austin Highway and Eisenhower cross Harry Wurzbach near each other. The building is still there, I think its a bowling alley now. Apparently, the owner of the restaurant was a good friend of John Wayne's and the Duke used to eat there all the time when he was in SA.

Yes. I believe it was called Frontier's, or the Frontier. It was in the location that was a Fratteli's and now an Indian food place. I went there a lot with my parents. Quality-wise, they were more like an upscale Sizzler.
