I've never been all that familiar with downtown. Although I spent a lot of time down there as a kid. Mother would take us to the Majestic (loved that theater) Texas, Aztec , Joske's , Neisners, Woolworths . I loved all of those! Think I went in that downtown Sears a couple of times. I was thinking Solo Serve was close.

I only lived in SA for the '67-'68 school year so I don't remember much of what is posted here, but I really enjoy this thread.

I spent many a Saturday at the Texas Theater! My little sister and I would take the bus from Nogalitos and Division for a dime. We'd go to the movies and spend hours downtown. Mind you we were 10 and 8 at the time! Things were so much less complicated then.

Consumer's Wholesale Commissary. There was another one at 410/Broadway and owned by the same family that owned Handy Andy and CPM.

Yeah! Can't remember who brought up Warehouse Grocery. Made me think of that location. Consumers Wholesale Commisary sounds right. Knew it was connected with Handy Andy . But, Central Park Mall. What's that connection? Didn't the Jaffe family build and own Central Park or North Star? Aren't they in the movie business also? I know they lived in Olmos Park off McCollough around the corner from the family that owned Solo Serve.

The Texas was beautiful too & the Aztec. What an experience watching movies in those luxurious theaters. I can remember checking out the balconies and the little alcove hide away seats on the sides. The Majestic had a big aquarium built in the wall on the left when you walked in the door.To the left of concessions. I was probably anywhere from an infant to 10 or 12 years old. Kid's today don't know what they're missing in the modern drab theaters. In our day, forget the movies , the theater was an experience.

Got it, "Old" man! My birthday is a national holiday EVERY year! LOL! I was the first baby born in my county (Ashtubula County in Ohio) that year so that was cool for my Mom. I was too young to notice.

Our second grandchild is due December 27 and I'm hoping K2 will share my birthday. Daughter and son-in-love are hoping for the tax deduction.

Will you change your CD name to satx57 in November?

Lori

That's right yours is celebrated "every" year! Just asked my wife her dad's was dec 31. Hers is dec 15. Our twins boy & girl were Dec 4. My daughters little girl was expected sooner. Sometime around your k2's. But, it waited to the 2nd. My dad's was Jan 16 my wife's brother is earlier Jan. My mothers is March 6 the day the Alamo fell!
I've thought about the name change in November. May change it to satx49 just to make me feel better!

Age is just a number! People will always think you are 56 and you'll never age again.

I do hope a name change is possible because I want to get rid of the "in Virginia" part asap!

I'm afraid to mess with this thing now. Forgot my password the other day and it took me 2 hours to straighten it out! Why do you want to lose the Virginia? 67' 68' get to go to Hemisfair? What school did you go to?
