I notice on this forum many people focus on the negatives of the city and overlook the positives, which are in my opinion very plentiful. I do not think crime in SA is very high and I have never in my 5 years living here had anything stole, or even felt threatened. Prices and service here seem to be a lot friendlier than most other places I have been too. I aslo think tat this is a very beautiful city. Overall, I think SA is a great place to live -- what are your opinions?

I agree. My husband went back to San Diego to visit with family for a week. He was dead tired of the b.s. by day 3 and ready to come home after day 5. We came here to get out of the rat race and have a nice family friendly atmosphere and it's been just wonderful.

There's probably three posters (I call them trolls) who are here merely to bad mouth San Antonio every chance they get. There act is old and already known so most are never even taken seriously.

And yes, SA is a great place to live.

All people have different opinions.

Determining if SA or any other place to live is great or not is going to differ on what each person is looking for.

If you like lots of construction on roads and highways for years on end that rarely finish on schedule and on budget, san antonio's fetish with the spurs basketball team, as well as a lots of grafitti, then you may want to look at SA.

There are lots of good things that SA has to offer to people, but please keep in mind that there is always good with bad and determining if a place is good or not is based on peoples own personal preferences.

I think San Antonio is a great place to live for most people. Having been born and raised there, and having since lived and worked in a variety of America's major cities, I still have a fondness for San Antonio that makes visits to my family all the more tolerable. I offer the following observations as someone who knows the city well, along with many other major American cities:

What I Like
  • A small city feel with many big city trappings
  • Uniqueness
  • A rare American city with an actual historical signifigance and sense of history
  • Old, traditional Hispanic culture
  • Warm weather and surprisingly green - quite beautiful
  • Absurdly cheap cost of living - a 4000 sq. ft. house costs less than a 800 sq. ft. condo where I live
  • Great food!

What I do not like
  • Bad city government - a coalition of community college Socialists and unrepentant Rednecks
  • Virtually no significant educational infastructure - the smart and creative in San Antonio seem to all leave San Antonio
  • Lack of development - a very poor town when compared to others
  • Lack of good nightlife or social scene - if you were younger and had to opportunity to live elsewhere, San Antonio would seem like a social wasteland

San Antonio is a great place to live - and probably not as great a place to relocate as a young professional. Again, it all depends on what you like. If you are looking to raise a family, enjoy a nice pace of life, and surround yourself with a unique and friendly culture, I could not reccomend a better place. If you are looking for up-scale, big city life, you will be sadly dissapointed.

Converse, which is right outside of San Antonio is quite possibly the best place to live in the area.

Converse is fine. It's just like the rest of SA, but with great housing prices. I know folks who have moved here from Miami who like Converse. They bought two houses there because they were such a good deal.

Lol, the gangs aren't hardly all that bad as off of Walzem, and what's wrong with living in a black community? Some people like to be around blacks. You make it sound like the ghetto.

the gangs off walzem are right around the corner from converse....too close for me, personally.

and, personally, i would prefer to live in a community surrounded by NO ONE.

I do not dislike specific races, but rather just dislike people in general. haha

just kidding.

i was just pointing out to those that do not know, Converse is largely black community.

just as Schertz is mainly white

and Stone Oak is mainly white

and everything inside 410 with the exception of Alamo Heights is mainly hispanic.

just stating some facts for the folks that are not from here.

i noticed lots of new businesses in converse over the past few months.

the ISD is planning on a third high school from my sources.

good for them. they need it,
