Would I? Heck no. That'd be a hour and a half one way commute, maybe longer. In terms of shopping your closest option would be Bulverde.

That would be an astronomically long drive. USAA is in the Medical Center, which is in the northwest part of town, and Canyon Lake is on the opposite end of the universe from there.

No way! You'd never enjoy your home/surroundings since you'd be spending about 3 hours (give or take) every day on the road, in ugly traffic. My otherhalf used to commute about 45 minutes each way to work (we lived in Atascosa county, on about 40 acres with tons of animals). Didn't take too long before we realized that country life and small town mentality were not for us. And the commute was for the birds!

Faster would be 281 to 1604 to 10. But still very long.

Though not as popular as Canyon Lake, you might try Medina Lake to the West of San Antonio.

I was going to say I know people who commute from Medina Lake to SWRI on the west side. A few years ago it wasn't too bad, but is only getting worse now given the building on the NW side.

We just bought a Canyon Lake vacation/future retirement home and love it there, but driving to/from the SA Airport is bad enough. I definitely would not want to commute to SA. Of course, we are retiring to the area in part to get away from DC traffic!

I drove from Canyon Lake to San Antonio for years but it was to the West Ave and Blanco Road area from Satler. Basically 281 all the way. Now we live in the DFW area and these long commutes are pretty much a way of life here I drive 2 hours total a day minimum and it does not seem that bad. That is 35 miles one way. I look for other routes to take to make the drive easy. Satellite radio helps a bunch. If you have an option Medina as mentioned above is a cool place but if you are locked into Canyon I would do it. Next invest in a Hybrid!

That daily commute would definitely leave you bald from ripping your hair out. I couldn't even imagine it.. The commute from Medina Lake would be pure hell too.. nearly every commute is hell anymore with all the bad drivers, construction, and lack of any thought process prior to developing areas..
